wusl subs gone for good?

Since the end of last year, WUSL hd2 blazing rap/hip hop and hd3 spanish hits have been gone. Usually, when a sub is gone a few weeks and returns its a technical issue but almost 6 months, not good. Is there really nothing to put on, I can think of 3 formats, the breeze, classic oldies 55-75 or standards. If its too involved to accomplish in house, they could just grab WMID, KFXM, WKCE, WERT or a ton of other signals across the country that they can put on a sub, if its legal. Thank goodness the main signal is still in HD.

Several years back I drove the mother-in-law's Jeep to the supermarket, along with her and the wife.
I couldn't make hide nor hair out the (darned) car radio. The surmise here is that it was a factory installed HD job, because Moms knew nothing about radio reception. Not just that ; there are maybe two stations within a hundred miles that broadcast in HD. The compact controls on it looked more confusing than the studio consoles I've seen at radio stations of the past few visits.

I spent 26 years in radio yet cannot fathom any reason for the average listener to seek, let alone explore, an HD set. No, I believe firmly that HD was a hair-splitting strategy constructed solely for stations in large markets to have more 'properties'.

HD was created based on two spectacularly wrong assumptions: that satellite radio was a legitimate threat, and that listeners wanted more musical genres on FM. Nearly two decades later, satellite radio's subscriber count seems likely to plateau at 10-15 percent of US population, and those additional genres are still niches that don't need to be addressed by commercial radio.

Plenty of music format choices WUSL could put in their HD channels including reviving their old US1 format. But I should point out WMGK HD-2 already has the oldies format you mentioned.

There have been several threads I've seen about iHeart giving less support to HD radio. Their primary interest is driving people to their online platform. So in answer to your question, I'm guessing yes.

Does the royalty payments (to Xperi) for HD go down if you go from having an HD1, HD2, HD3 to say just an HD1 and HD2. If iHeart discontinued using HD3 and HD2 on 50 or more stations I would expect they could say a little cash if that is the case.

That could be a reason for them shutting off some HD2 and HD3 channels.
