I'm surprised they all passed up WFXT for Foxnet despite at least one Boston station (and in some cases multiple Boston stations) being carried on every system.

WFXT wasn't listed, but I wouldn't rule out it being carried...Fox was only listed in the converter guide as "FOX", Interestingly enough, WHDH was listed by the old WNEV calls, but there was also a WHDH listing as well in the grid.

WNNE-TV channel 31 is presently licensed to Montpelier, VT. It's now a CW affiliate with it's transmitter on Mount Mansfield in Stowe. I believe it's also a subchannel of sister station WPTZ-TV (NBC) channel 5 Plattsburgh, NY. (I want to say channel sharing due to the spectrum auction.)

West Lebanon, NH is over the Connecticut River from the village of White River Junction, VT. WRJ is actually part of the town of Hartford, VT.

I see one of these systems carried channel 8 of Maine at one point. It helped that their transmitter was atop Mount Washington.

At one time WMTW blanketed pretty much all of northern New England (Aroostook County would have been too far) and even got into Montreal. Their signal was huge.

Aroostook County already has their own channel 8, as in WAGM-TV (CBS).

I asked WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 New Haven once about not being 316,000 watts and if WMTW-TV had anything to do with that. Was told it was slightly less due to tower height (analog era).

You are quite right, I didn't think of that. Got to wonder if that created any co-channel interference in northwestern Maine and southeastern Quebec. Also got to wonder if that is the reason for WAGM's oblong Grade A/B contours, which are also tiny compared to WMTW's.

WMTW and WAGM were fully spaced. In fact, when WMTW moved off Mt. Washington, they ended up slightly closer to WAGM than before.

Yes, but given the reach of WMTW's signal when they were up on Mount Washington, could even that much proximity (230 miles, give or take) have still created problems? I know that when WSET-13 Lynchburg VA (ex-WLVA) was on analog, they could not move their transmitter closer to Roanoke, to prevent problems with WOWK Huntington WV and WLOS Asheville NC. WLOS also had kind of a "catbird seat" transmitter location (Mount Pisgah) with a similarly huge coverage area to WMTW, they were carried on translators (which had to pick up the mother signal OTA, this was before satellites) deep into southern Kentucky. I have seen WSET and WLOS "hammering it out" using rabbit ears in Wytheville VA (similar distance as between WMTW and WAGM), but that could have been freak propagation on one particular morning.

Moving WMTW to a more "normal" transmitter location would have caused no problem.

WMTW-TV had to be a lot closer to Portland for digital TV. They're now near Lake Sebago in Baldwin, ME. The coverage these days has issues. I think they're on a VHF channel (possibly still on 8). They also had to add an in-town translator in Portland on channel 26.

Yes, but that was about the sweetest transmitter location imaginable, massive coverage area. Shame to lose that.

WLOS, as I noted above, was similarly situated, and their signal once reached from Kentucky to Georgia, and from Charlotte to Knoxville and beyond. There have been many issues in recent years with gaining access to the Mount Pisgah transmitter, I believe the funicular railway (wow!) gave out, and they have to get there via helicopter, which is kind of tricky. I was able to pick up their analog OTA signal on channel 13 from the I-26 rest stop at Newberry with no problem. I haven't had that kind of success on Little Mountain (near the Newberry/Lexington county line), though I did pick up WUNF-33's DTV signal, which also broadcasts from Mount Pisgah.

As a side note, I stayed at the Mount Pisgah Inn one night (analog days, 2001 IIRC), took a small VHF/UHF antenna, and was able to get Columbia clear as a bell, pretty much a straight shot, and also got WTVD-11 from Durham and one or more of the Macon GA TV stations. At the time, they put UHF loops on the backs of the TV sets and said that your channel lineup might vary due to the elevation. I think they've put in satellite TV by now.

correct. The main signal is on VHF8 but they have a fill in translator in Portland proper on 26
