Isn't it interesting that today everything seems to come down to either Rupert Murdoch, or George Soros. Or in the words of the late Mort Sahl: Back in the day this country had Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and Abraham Lincoln...now we've got Dick Nixon and Jerry Ford...something's wrong!

On the conservative side, there is the Koch family:
The behaviour of the Koch brothers makes their party "Big Business" as they look Democrat in some things like immigration and Republican in matters like taxation.

I still don't see why this matters so much.
Soros does not back anything that does not fit his sociopolitical agenda.

Is there something illegal about that? Don't lots of other people do the same thing?
I did not say that there was anything illegal or unethical about that. But, simply, nearly everything he does supports his sociopolitical agenda. Most people rule less of their lives over those principles or don't have the opportunity to finance their own beliefs.

They're also not his age. If George Soros is a socialist, so is Warren Buffett. Buffett also has been giving away much of his fortune. These guys didn't get rich by believing in socialism. They are the ultimate capitalists.

Soros has done some highly destructive things within the capitalist system, particularly triggering the devaluation of the £ and of the Thai currency in strategically brilliant trading moves. He's known for having very personal "instinctive" triggers for starting and ending a play, and some of them are the subject of post-graduate case studies.

I've read a couple of the cases, and he is indeed quite amazing. But there truly seems to be an underlying "agent of change" feeling to his deals.

He is definitely a modern socialist, using capitalist tools to further his vision of how society should behave. In that, he is like a tugboat captain in a difficult port in a major storm.

[KBLA's] signal is just overwhelmingly bad except in a narrow lobe headed WSW from a point just NE of downtown LA. With increasing noise levels on AM this has become a truly wretched signal.

My point is that KBLA has a dreadful signal and even with pretty good coverage of the LA HDBA (but nearly nothing else) it gets no ratings at all.

I grew up in Southwestern LA, and listened to (then-)KDAY quite a bit. Around 1979 we moved to the Pomona/Claremont area. KDAY's signal was very weak, and, at night either KNIX (Phoenix) or XEDM (Hermosillo, Sonora, MX) would stomp all over it.

There we have some real world proof. Alike Azuza, the northern parts of Glendale, etc., the signal was very poor or covered by the now-silent XEDM.

"Finance their own beliefs", an concept well spoken David...I wonder if that has occurred to a certain candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles....

Back in the 70s I used to drive from the SFV to work early in the morning to Marina del Rey via the PCH. If KDAY was on night-pattern ( when their westerly signal was relatively strong) they sounded like a normal LA Area station. On more than one occasion I was just crossing into the Santa Monica City limits around sunrise when KDAY would change to daytime pattern. At that point their signal was so weak that I could clearly hear KNIX only about 6dB below KDAY. A 50 kW station with 500 W coverage in that direction from the Echo Park xmitter.

Many folks may remember when George Carlin was talking about his experience in radio in Los Angeles. He made reference to KDAY without "mentioning any names". He said he worked for an LA station with the most bizarre coverage: "a signal about 70 miles long but only mile wide". You could hear it down the coast in Oceanside, but you can't get it in Sherman Oaks.

Can you show me a source for "All of the money...."

Miami Herald:

They are not going to shut us up.’ Cuban exiles vow to boycott if Radio Mambí is ‘silenced’

Cuban exile leaders react after the sale of the iconic Radio Mambí to Latino Media Network

Cuban exile community reacts after the sale of Radio Mambi and WQBA La Cubanisíma radio stations to the newly formed media company Latino Media Network, which has links to national Democrats. By Pedro Portal

Promising boycotts, protests and strikes, Cuban exile leaders expressed their fear that two Miami stations, Radio Mambí and WQBA — which have traditionally advocated for Cuba’s freedom — would be silenced after being bought by Latino Media Network, a media company run by “social activists with a left-wing progressive political agenda.”

TelevisaUnivision, Inc. reached an agreement to sell 18 stations, including Radio Mambí and WQBA, in different cities, to Latino Media Network (LMN), founded by Stephanie Valencia, who worked in the White House as a special assistant to the president and as director of public engagement under the Barack Obama administration, and Jess Morales Rocketto, who worked in the Obama and Hillary Clinton campaigns.

The newly created LMN, which has managed to raise $80 million for its startup, also has funds from the investment firm Lakestar Finance LLC, associated with liberal-leaning billionaire George Soros.

This is the opening to a long article today where in this issue it is the lead article. .

And here, from Axios, is a clean, impartial statement of the facts:

I'd also like to know where all of this talk of socialism comes from. Who is saying Soros is a socialist?
Here are a lot of people who know socialism up front, treacherous and murderous who are very alarmed about Soros' manipulation of the financial system to create vast disruption. Read about how he forced the devaluation of currencies in the UK and Thailand, creating enormous difficulties for the lowest income groups.

These are probably the same "Cuban exiles" that enjoyed special treatment for years by the US government, via an agreement that allowed many Cubans to enter the USA illegally and be processed and remain here, under conditions that would have caused people from Mexico and other countries entering the USA under the exact same circumstances to be refused entry and sent back. Many Cubans who took full advantage of those special circumstances for people from their country specifically, and came here and later brought scads of family with them, are voting for Trump and screaming the loudest for him to build the wall and seal the borders. Why? Because these folks from Cuba have made it here, they've established themselves, and yes, many are guilty of doing the same things and living the same lifestyles that Trump has warned us Mexicans would do if permitted here (not learning English, living off the government and allowing taxpayers to support them financially, taking jobs that should have gone to "real" Americans, etc.). However, these Cuban folks don't want others coming behind them from Mexico and other countries as they see it as competition that they simply don't want. They're here, they've made it, and they don't want that same opportunity to be offered to anyone else. How incredibly selfish these people must be! They cannot have simple and basic empathy for immigrants from Mexico and other countries who currently want to come to the USA for a better life and for many of the same reasons they themselves came here from Cuba.

None of the links say "all of the money." The links list Lakestar among the funders. See above: "Also has funds..." I'm not disputing that. You said "all of the money." That's not true. There are other investors listed in the Axios article. Regardless of where the money is coming from, no one has actually spoken with the fund or anyone connected with the funding that says that the programming will be pro-socialist in nature. It's all made-up fear based on the image conservative media and the Florida governor has created about George Soros.

No one connected with the new company has said they will shut down Radio Mambi. But there's a lot of assuming going on. That's what happens when you have people who've been stirred up by one-sided media with absolutely no opportunity to hear from the people they fear. They've created this huge imaginary monster, based on their experiences in other countries and the far right media.

Here are a lot of people who know socialism up front, treacherous and murderous who are very alarmed about Soros' manipulation of the financial system to create vast disruption.

They know THEIR experience from specific countries. Yet they've chosen to live in a state where the governor has basically created a socialist government, where he's taken over the education system, the legislature, the election system, and has even threatened a state takeover of Disney World. State control of private business is the textbook definition of socialism and it's happening now in Florida. Talk about "vast disruption!" Talk to the people living in the Orlando area right now. They live in fear of what crazy scheme their governor is cooking up for their Democrat-run county. They are powerless to stop him from disrupting their lives.

There is no reason to believe that an AM radio station is going to impose socialism on the people of Florida or the United States. That is simply impossible. An AM radio station will only devalue the currency of the people who invest in it. But there are very real documented facts that the current governor is behaving like a dictator, shutting down any free speech from anyone who speaks out against him. The fact that these people are targeting a private investor based on conspiracy theories rather than their own elected governor shows that these people NEED real information badly.
