The only time i really listen to music radio is Sunday Mornings. I like the local gospel show on 105.7. I prefer it over Gospel Traxx on 94.5.
I totally agree with you on that one. Local is definitely better in that case. Majic is the station I listen to the most. Especially all day on Saturdays.

The Eagle is in deep bird doo-doo.
At the risk of taking bait, KEGL has improved a bit from their stunning fall, but they are still far below their previous standards. I am not sure what it is that’s caused this, it seems like it could be any of 3 or 4 things, but it looks like KEGL is going to have to make some changes if they remain mired behind KVIL in the ratings. It’ll be tough especially since it looks like KVIL has stolen some listeners.

In the newly issued numbers from today, Alt 103.7 scored second place in A18 to 34 and a tie for 7th in A18 to 49.

Those are impressive results.

KEGL remains in major trouble, it would appear.

What a turnaround! To think, last October we were scratching our heads at what to do with 103.7. Now, it’s the Eagle we have to start worrying about. Well, that and 93.3. 93.3 is the bigger mystery to me now. If you aren’t doing great with something so broadly appealing as CHR, what can you succeed with?

A WBAP simulcast, perhaps? Maybe a format like Classic Hip-Hop?

as for the future of 97.1 and rock in DFW, i could see Alt 103.7 become heavier and adopt the newer heavy rock & metal hits while the classics of the format's past moves on to Lonestar 92.5 as well as The Treehouse and or Ben & Skin (if the station flips to a non-sports oriented format), the Treehouse (i could see them be in danger of being removed from radio now that Russ Martin is dead, the Clo Child Porn scandal didn't help and the show is just Alfie & Dan and this two man show works better in a podcast form, but at least they have new jobs to fall back on outside of radio cause their days on the air are numbered).

i think the death of Russ was the death of the heart and soul of this incarnation of the Eagle and Cindy Scull leaving was a warning that Rock Radio is dead in Dallas and that this format of music can be covered better by streaming services like iHeartRadio (owned by The Eagle's parent company), Audacy, Spotify, Pandora and SiriusXM's Octane and other rock stations on the SXM platform.

now for the future format of 97.1, the top choice of format to flip is Sports Talk since Ben & Skin are established as a sports talk show, they have the Mavs radio rights and ESPN just left the market and a station needs to pick up broadcast right to the radio broadcast of national sports events airing on ESPN Radio in this market. and plus with The Ticket seemly going through lineup changes and The Fan being The Fan, i could see iHeart to produce a top Sportstalk station in no time.

if any station owned by Cumulus that is on AM needs to be simulcasted on 93.3, the one station that needs it the most is 1310 The Ticket.

I'm rather fascinated by all the Sports Talk talk. Sure, it is a very desirable market.

As on posted earlier, if 97.1 went to the format and then The Ticket simulcasted in FM, where does it stop.

I look and see only so many listening to the format. How many are out there now NOT listening because they don't like the existing stations? How many new people is that? I contend additional choices cause existing stations to lose revenue and lose listeners while the upstarts have some cash rolling in but nowhere close to what is the potential for a DFW FM signal. Now if half of the potential audience was not listening because they don't like what Sports Talk currently offers, then you have something. I don't buy that.

The above is just the sort of analysis my former boss would say before he asked "How does that make me money?"

I would not expect to see WBAP on 93.3.

I agree that a 93.3 Ticket simulcast does make some sense considering the limitations of the 96.7 rimshot, but if they were going to do that, it seems like it would have happened already.

Also, you have to imagine most of the current listening of The Ticket is on FM. and not 1310, and it seems to be doing pretty well, despite the signal. In the most recent release, The Ticket had a larger cume than the far far superior signal of 105.3.

If Disney didn't care enough to keep their outlet in DFW, why would iHeart go to the trouble to clear their programming?

I don't think there will be any dramatic flip of The Eagle.

What a could see happening is a gradual shift with more and more talk programming, some of which might be sports related. More like WTKS or WHPT than an ESPN/sports affiliate.

Will there be any music heard on the radio in DFW? If everyone on here is correct, a majority of the stations will be some type of spoken word, and the music choices will be slim pickings.

I've been saying Classic Hip Hop for a while. Do "The Vibe" like they are doing in other markets.
The Vibe is mostly for Non-Comm stations/college radio stations. The "Urban Alternative" format was created just for those stations.

Why would iHeart clear ESPN on any station they own when they own and program Fox Sports Radio. If any potenital flip of KEGL to sports will be taking Fox Sports from KTCK AM/FM. That way they can at least clear Dan Patrick everyday in #5 market.

Not necessarily. The Vibe has been used by many commercial radio stations. Several Cumulus-owned Classic hip hop stations such as WBBF in Buffalo and KNEV in Reno use the Vibe branding. Also, Rhythmic AC KVBH in San Antonio uses the Vibe branding.

I think we are talking about two different formats.

Can anyone explain how KZPS 92.5 continues to rank near the top with the handful of rusty old "classic rock" tunes they play? Are there some compelling air personalities on it that I've missed?
