Glad to see AM drive at WDIA will stay local. I believe Stan also does a weekend show. He's going to be pretty busy! Will have to see what happens with the vacant PM drive.

I don't understand why they didn't give Earle Augustus the morning show??? Possibly they can pay Stan a lower salary, maybe the reason. Anything for iHeart to save a buck...UGH!

This comment surprises me. Growing up listening to the iHeart Media stations in the 90s and 00s, Stan Bell was arguably the best known personality at K97 (either him or Mike Evans). I don’t know what the ratings were like, but Stan Bell had a big following at night and was moved to drive time. His roll call was one of the best known bits.

Stan Bell has the personality that Earle Augustus doesn’t have. He’s a Memphis native and has the best story as a kid who interned at WDIA and became a jock and an educator. He’s been with the stations for 30+ years. Why would he get a lower salary than Earle Augustus?

Earle Augustus always seemed like a quiet storm type personality who wouldn’t be right for the type of show they had with Bobby O’Jay at DIA. Stan Bell won’t be as confrontational (and controversial) as Bobby O’Jay could be at time, but he is definitely capable of being forceful and get into a deep topic with his listeners.

Stan Bell was one of the most popular radio personalities in Memphis on K97 when K97 was regularly the top rated station in town.

He was there fifteen years when they moved him to V101 since he was aging out of the demo.

He’s been at V101 longer now, but his star was created at K97 when being a DJ made you a star.

Agreed that Stan Bell was the absolute right call to replace Bobby O'Jay, but why make him pull a double when they could have kept Augustus at V101 for afternoons? Do you think his style was too mellow for PM drive?

I’m not sure. Maybe Stan Bell keeps their audience happier?

Earle was also co-hosting at V101 in the morning., I believe. So, if he went to mornings at WDIA, and still did the PM shift at WDIA maybe too much Earle on WDIA?. And maybe mgmt didn't think he was right for the morning shift, personality wise.

Remember, nowadays, especially iHeart, most jocks are required to do multiple shifts. And yes, it is about the company saving money. That, and logistics, a co-host is not as important as the main host. So that made Earle more expendable than Stan. As Stan is the MAIN host for both AM and PM drives at 2 stations. Financially, probably made a lot more sense to have Stan do both shifts, than to figure out where to put Earle someplace else other than morning host.
