Probably my last E-skip opening in Ellensburg. 6/29/22 (3 new!)

I am moving back to Yakima, WA as of July 1st. Last night I dropped off 80% of my stuff at a storage unit in Yakima. This morning I went back and have been mostly cleaning and tidying up the apartment for the next owner. In the meantime, there was Es on the drive back to Ellensburg and a little bit after I returned. About 40 minutes to SD and NE with three new.

11:05AM - 90.5 KXCV Maryville MO (100KW, 1352 mi) with RDS 'KXCV', on I-82 just south of Manastash Ridge
11:08AM - 94.1 KQCH Omaha, NE (95KW, 1270 mi) with 'Channel 94-1' RDS and ID
11:10AM - 94.7 KNEN Norfolk, NE (100KW, 1178 mi) with ad for Slumberland Furniture of Norfolk
11:13AM - 96.5 KSOM Audubon, IA (100KW, 1322 mi) with local ads and RDS 'KSOM'
11:28AM - 93.9 KSWN McCook, NE (50KW, 1089 mi) community calendar mentioning Culbertson NE, '93.9 The Zone' ID
11:29AM - 94.1 KNEB-FM Scottsbluff, NE (100KW, 907 mi) with farm report and 'THE BRAND' RDS
11:30AM - 88.3 KLMP Rapid City, SD (NEW! 63KW, 825 mi) with mention of 'MyFaithRadio.com'. KLMP is now a Northwestern Media station, which owns KTIS, KDNW, and other religious stations in the Midwest.
11:40AM - 92.7 KBRB-FM Ainsworth, NE (26KW, 1057 mi) with a lost '80s hit! 'I'm Your Man' by Wham!, ID, and the drawing of a winner for free ice cream courtesy of H&R Food Center in Ainsworth. Small town radio at its finest.
11:41AM - 89.3 KBHE-FM Rapid City, SD (NEW! 9.8KW, 859 mi) with SDPB mentions
11:45AM - 89.3 KXNE-FM Norfolk, NE (NEW! 42KW, 1184 mi) with Afternoon Concert on Nebraska Public Media, clear ID, in and out with KBHE and a third UNID joined in occasionally.

Total is still 900-something as I still haven't finished DX recordings from last July!

Awesome! I might have caught my first E-skip in Wenatchee today. I got an internship there over the summer so I'm commuting daily (the drive is okay except the occasional dumbass).

Have a safe and successful move to Yakima.

Good luck in Yakima. One of the things that interests me is when people are from somewhere totally foreign to me. Yakima, WA. My main takeaway from my brief Wiki-induced knowledge of Yakima is that Gary Puckett grew up there. So there you go, next time I hear "Young Girl", I can say, "Did you know Gary Puckett grew up in Yakima?" People will look at me like dogs who just heard a whistle. Then again, that's about half of my average conversation reactions.

Not only that, but Union Gap is a nearby town!

How long do these E-skip receptions last, on average (if there is an average)? Just curious.
In my experience, it can last anywhere between 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on conditions. I’ve had E-skip availability in North Iowa last about 3 hours before fading away.

^^^^^ Thanks for the replies. I've only experienced tropo, and the longest FM tropo I heard (and my longest FM reception) was of a station in the Dalles, OR from here in the Seattle-Tacoma metro, and it lasted for at least 10-15 minutes before I had to tune out. The only E-skip I've personally dealt with is on CB, which often experiences E-skip during the summers, and it's often pretty short.

Very cool to hear that it can last a while. No wonder guys can ID the stations so well.
