The Many Lives of 15~Hundred

Even after the FCC drove the final stake into the construction permit of KWIF, Culver City, the applicants are pulling a Crazy Ed and appealing to a higher court. The big stumbling block has been (and continues to be) the inability to locate a transmitter site. You may wonder what's the point of putting a high end, low power Ancient Modulation station on the air in el Lay? And you're absolutely right. Try to figure this one out: Fight Over New AM In Los Angeles Market Heads To Federal Appeals Court.

This is the CP that just won't die! I would love to know what they would put on the air, if it ever gets built. And with the $ value of it dropping fast, I think the folks behind 1500 are desperately trying to salvage the money they have invested into it so far.

Left wing politics seems to be in vogue for much less than optimal AM properties these days. What could go wrong?

I know more about this than I am allowed to say (proprietary disclosure agreements with Schwab) but I can say that all of your speculative guesses and presumed facts not in evidence are incorrect.

The board of directors of Audacy, I Heart, Univision, and many more, are no doubt apprehensive of what might come to 15~Hundred in the coming days, weeks, months, years, or decades. The last application filed (and dismissed by the FCC) had the Culver City flame thrower operating with 400 watts day, and 170 watts at night. And if counting sheep at night doesn't work for you, try this: http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/pr...timportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=100146

It would be much more respectful if you labeled it liberal or progressive talk. Left wing (especially the 'wing' addendum) reeks of uncomplimentary partisan dismissiveness. No one refers to KRLA as an Ultra MAGA or 'right wing' station... rather it is referred to as a conservative talk station. Rush Limbaugh was a conservative talk show host. Air America was referred to as "progressive talk radio"... so please refrain from using phraseology that is not just partisan, but wording which reeks of arrogance and disgust for those you presumably disagree with. It is not becoming to upholding the spirit of these United States.... emphasis on the United.

I think you are over-reacting. The "left" and "right" are a direct reference to the seating in Congress. Republicans sit on the right, facing forward, and Democrats on the left side of the assembly. Thus the "right" and "left" definitions have totally non-partisan significance.

Sorry you feel that way, but I ran a search of both "right wing" and "left wing" terms on this site and found well over a hundred entries for each posted by dozens of users, so both terms are in common use, both in the general populace and on this site. This is just a guess here, but, my guess is you have not called out any of the many posters who have used the term "right wing"? I haven't either, but then I am not the one pointing fingers.

And here all along I thought this was just a fun, light-hearted and jovial discussion thread started by DrAkbar to bring joy to our otherwise mundane and uneventful lives on this here RadioDiscussions board. So tell us, Dr. Akbar...What kind of wings are you and Nurse Jeff? Right? Left? Or perhaps one of these?:

Comes actually from the French parliament of the late 1700s and the British parliament. But it can be used pejoratively

I really don’t care what his reasons are. It just seems like he is wasting taxpayers money and time with both the FCC and court system.

However, historically in the US the reference is to seating in Congress. How many Americans, including our Senators and Representatives, know pre-US Independence European history? (They likely think 1066 is the model of the new BMW electric vehicle).

I like Hickory Smoke BBQ wings, while Nurse Jeff goes for Mango Habanero wings. Might explain the strange odor in our '76 Gremlin 🦨

But back to topic....where's the money coming from to continue all the wrangling for 15~Hundred?

It is his right, just as it is anyone's, to pursue any and all legal recourse when one believes they have been wronged.

Your -- or anyone else's -- questioning the wisdom of pursuing this does not erase that right.

You'll never know, Dr. Akbar. Only two of us know and neither of us is saying.

Wasn't that car nicknamed "Hastings"? 😎
