I was down in their neck of the desert this morning, so I decided to check 1540 for the heck of it. They are off the air. What's weird is that there are two towers on their property, when there were none just over a year ago, per Google Street View. I take it they're rebuilding? FCC data still shows them licensed and operational with 10 kW-D/19 w-N on three towers.

While we're at it, what's the status of 1280 KXEG. I see 2 expired STA's in the FCC database, nothing regarding any deletion. I suppose the bankruptcy receivership was never able to find a buyer.
Their STA has been granted as they conduct ground conductivity measurements at the Crackhouse on Buckeye (aka KOY 12~Thirty). That's where they want to move the xmttr.

They have until 10/03/22 to fire up both the AM and the FM translator. That's a tough sale as there's no permanent site for 12~Eighty and the market is saturated with religious formatted Ancient Modulation stations. But it only takes one buyer who thinks they can make it work.
Actually, it's funny, because La Indiscreta just did some sort of stunt that involves them going "jockless" and their airstaff staying "silent"! I think they are making some changes to their lineup and wanted to promote it...

Hi Dr. Akbar, I have searched high and low for any info on an FM translator attached to KXEG, to no avail.
Was this possibly the one that CRC purchased back when they moved to the tower site at 38th Ave/ Indian School (2nd worse Crackhouse xtmr site), and The Trumpet went belly up?
If 1540 is off the air, but the 106.7 translator is still broadcasting, isn't this an FCC no-no?

CRC's 15~Eighty was diplexed with 12~Eighty at the Crackhouse on 38th Ave. When the Trumpet went belly up, CRC's lease was terminated and they're moving to 14~Hundred's stick.
That is the understanding of the Esteemed Middle Eastern Men of the Media. However, we do recall several extenuating circumstances: 1) KASA was authorized to continue broadcasting with a horizontal long wire at their Baseline location until a new site was found. 2) KASA was being broadcast on 14~Eighty for a while. Neither the Nurse or I have listened to either station in some time, but we've asked summer school students at the Media Hut to sort it out.

Hasn't stopped dozens of off-air AM's that keep the translators going.
One in Boise's been off since 2015 but the translator keeps going.
As of Thu morning (7/07) KPHX 14~Eighty, KASA 15~Forty, KQFN 15~Eighty, AND KSUN 14~Hundred were all off the air. KPHX and KQFN are tri-plexed on KSUN's stick, and engineers probably didn't want to become crispy critters while working at the site. KASA has a CP to diplex on KOY's stick. While KQFN was off the air, their 99~Three translator was carrying the usual Sports Parking lot programming.
As was their 95.9 translator.

Bumping because KXEG reported it went back on the air today. Unsure what they are broadcasting.
KXEG got a last minute STA for 10 watts with a 20 foot vertical whip antenna on Shaw Butte and an STA for 1 watt ERP with their K241CS on 96.1. But driving by Shaw Butte I hear nothing on 1280 and only Power 98.3 on 96.1 from their South Mountain translator.
On 1540, I can never pick up their STA operation, but the translator continues to run.

A talent from my city (Hermosillo), he quit his job at the radio station that belongs to MVS Radio to try his luck at KASA 1540 in Phoenix. He left his space on a 5kw FM radio for a translator, let's see how it goes...
