We could start a whole thread of mistakes live DJs have made, from misnaming their station to forgetting that their mic is open.

Doing the same thing over & over doesn't make you better. Mistakes happen all the time. That's what happens when you hire humans. But if you were forced to sit in the studio listening to the exact same songs every day, don't you think it would drive you crazy after a while? It would me. That's why I don't do it.

I’m not sure which part of my comment you are referring to, but I was referring to hearing the last few seconds (and first few seconds) of the same songs every day as being bothersome.

The one constant in all of this is that if there's a cheaper way to do something, the large operators will jump all over it. To them, radio is a black box; you feed (a very small amount of) money into the slot at the top, and you (hopefully) get more than that out of the slot at the bottom.

The smaller ones have even less money. They're the ones running satellite delivered formats with no localism at all.

The small operators have no company resources to draw on, and are being hurt even more by inflation and the recession.

You mean turn a profit? Yeah, that’s how businesses stay afloat and keep people employed. Not sure how getting more back than you spend is somehow unique to any one size business that is trying to keep running.

Beyond that, the statement is laughably over broad.

KRTH purged most of their “old” talent around 2013-2015 sans Gary Bryan. Some were retirements, others were released due to being associated with the station’s “old” sound they were moving away from. It didn’t seem as obvious of a change as it does with WOGL, though. When “Coop” was added to WOGL I thought he was quite young for the station, so they may have been planning this for a while or were hoping someone younger in the morning drive time would help.

I feel like a station like CBS-FM in a market like NYC is going to be less affected by having older jocks.

Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where the MTV VJ turned 25 and was immediately escorted off stage and replaced with someone younger and more hyper.

I was hoping Domino would come back as a tracker. When he first joined Sunny in Orlando 10+ years ago I was skeptical. I thought he was way too young and his style wouldn't work for the format. Now he's one of the only music personalities I make a point to listen to, and it's been that way through his entire run on Sunny.
