Clarke moved from Florida to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1973. He was at WZUU in Milwaukee until 1975 when he moved to Madison. In 1976 the stunning beauty of Oregon drew him westward. He worked in Portland at KPAM until he was lured to KPNW in Eugene in 1978. Later, a radio friend coaxed Clark to join him at a new station, KDUK, “The Duck.” Another radio buddy hired him away from KDUK to work at KMJK, “Magic Radio.” Clark fell in love with beauty of the area. He was happy to again work with people he respected and enjoyed working with. He often commented on how lucky he was to work for management who really understood what it took to run a successful radio station. The owner never allowed sales to make programming decisions, a rarity in mid-market radio. Programming was left to programmers. Clark remained there until he retired in 2008.
During retirement, Clark enjoyed traveling to his two favorite destinations: Dallas, Texas, to visit his daughter and grandson and he spent time in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. In 2015, Clark’s health became problematic so he and his wife of 51 yearsmoved to Dallas, to be near their daughter. In June 14, 2022, Clark tested positive for Covid and passed away June 29, 2022. Clark was an incredibly sweet, nice man who was deeply loved and missed by many. View attachment 3245
