Hello from Argentina!

Hello everybody there. My name is Osvaldo, located at "Barrio Garay, Buenos Aires, Argentina". I am ham radio LW1DSE from 1987 and radiobuilder from the same time and a tube/valve enthusiast. Actually I am working in an all tube FM receiver. The oscillator and part of the IF stages are resolved. The project includes as compactron tubes as I can, there are spectacular combination of triodes, pentodes and diodes and are of very good electrical characteristics. I have owned several of them in past years.

Many thanks to owner and moderators to accept me here.

Welcome... y ¡bienvenido!

I was the programmer of Bs. As. radio station "Mega 98.3" from 2000 to 2006. So it is exciting to have a new participant from Argentina.

Ok. Grande Daniel Hadad. Yo tuve en la facu al tío, Eduardo que se nos fue hace años y tengo la foto de graduación con él.

I knew Eduardo Hadad, the aunt of Daniel, the owner of this radio. I seldom listened to it. Eduardo was professor of the UTN FRA university. I coursed with him at 4° and 6° year ahd have the photo with him when graduated. Seems I cant post it here.

Mega and Radio 10 (which I also consulted) in that time period were not owned by Daniel Hadad; He sold them in 1999 to Emmis from the United States. Emmis kept the stations until 2006 when they sold them back to Hadad because the economy had become so broken that nobody in radio was making money... not even Mitre and La Cien. Ones like Rivadavia and El Mundo went bankrupt, and others changed owners like a losing team changes coaches!

And Radio 10:

And Mega promotions:

Actualy I listen Rivadavia AM 630 and Mitre AM 790 during different hours. Radio Diez AM 710 was wonderful during the era of Marcelo Longobardi, Rolito Villar, Oscar el negro Gonzáles Oro, Chiche Gelblung, Rolando Hanglin, Antonio Laje, and the like, previously to be owned by kircnerists and become it unlistenable. I was in the Radio 10 TX Plant in Campo de Mayo, Edu Hadad got an authorization to go there. 56Kw in those era, all SS.

One radio I loved really was Energy 101.1 (NRG). I started to listen them accidentally while calibrating and testing my FM tuner based on TDA7211 & TDA1220B. Thanks to them I made lover of elecronic music. The staff was spectacular: DJ J P Pfirter, now in Spain, Thorry, Sergio Pángaro... I really cried the day they close the tx and started a pop music station. I still have several of the CD's they compilled and some frustrated people like me remember it in the web.

In the photos of the Radio 10 transmitter I took around 2000 to 2001, we had a 100 kw main Nautel transmitter and a 30 kw auxiliary Nautel. There was a "passive reflector" in the northwest corner of the site to push the signal towards the city, aimed pretty much towards the Obelisco and Puerto Nuevo. That gave Radio 10 about 120 kw of effective power towards the city and away from unwanted areas... such as Paraguay!

The entry to Campo de Mayo required me to show my passport and be photographed. The station engineers had military passes with them always.

I knew all the Radio 10 people at the time... Longbardi, Gonzáles Oro, Chiche and Laje were good conversationalists and I learned a lot in some short lessons on Argentine politics and social issues from sitting around in the 3rd floor cafeteria chupando mate with Radio 10 commentators.

It was an exciting six years to create the "Puro Rock Nacional" format and see it be, for a number of years, the most listened to radio station in the Western Hemisphere. I still chat online with the Mega announcers with surprising frequency so, more than anything, I valued the friendships. And the bife. And the mate. And the vinos.

One of the personel in the pant said us at the time that the target was to have a field of 2V/m in the city.

They calculated that even 100 kw could not overcome the man-made noise in some areas of the city. That is why they added the second tower to push the signal towards the center of the city.

I dislike rock and never listened Mega, still less with what is called "rock nacional". I prefeer electronic in all kinds (I listen di.fm in web), jazz, folclore and few of tango. In any case I am fan of Joan Manuel Serrat and Joaquín Sabina singer songwriters. Also strongly dislike cumbia and regaeton.

You make a good point which in the USA not everyone understands: In Latin America there are as many... or more types of music than there are in the US. And people who like one or two kinds may not like at all many other kinds.

I happen to like cumbia and vallenato and was even in attendance at the first Vallenato festival in Valledupar, Colombia in the late 60's. I even owned an all-cumbia radio station, but also had a rock station, a pop station (it was the first station in the world to play Sandro), a soft music station, an Andean music station and a classical station. My favorite of all kinds of music is salsa, though.

I can do without bailanta. I did, on a visit to Bs. As. in the early 90's, see a show with Gild at a boliche and it was fund and festive, but not something for every day. For some reason, I kind of like sertanejo, too.
