No Bull in Rochester

iHeart pulled the plug on their 0.5 country station in the Rochester market. "The Bull" has switched to all syndicated All 80s as "Big 107.3." I'm not sure it'll help. The Bristol Mountain FM barely breaks the Thruway with its primary contour.

Worst company in broadcasting, hands down.

I like their "BIG" name though :)

I'm not sure why iHeart waited till now to flip WNBL. It switched 100.5 WDVI to Country in October. So why did it keep playing Country music on 650 watt WNBL when it was also playing Country music on 50,000 watt WDVI? It was even simulcasting the syndicated Premiere Networks' Bobby Bones Show on both stations.

As said above, WNBL is not really a Rochester station. iHeart owns WNBL and Adult Contemporary 102.3 WVOR. The two stations really both cover an area southeast of Rochester. But both stations are based at the iHeart studios in Rochester.

In the area and heard Martha Quinn in early afternoon on Friday, July 1, Jeffrey T after that. And yes signal in downtown Rochester is lousy but decent on 390 then 90where I made some crude recordings while On my way to Buffalo. (Also enjoying the Lake on 104.5)

I had no idea Martha was syndicated. Not only did I have a huge crush on her in high school, but she is damn good on air. I’m a child of the 80s!

Went back for a longer listen on Monday evening the fourth and my impression was it is a highly researched playlist — all very familiar 80s hits, no oh-wow factor songs in the hour plus I was tuned in. Station tries to serve Rochester but the tower is down near the southern end of Canandaigua lake,
And even south of the Thruway there were places in the car where the signal was fluttery.

It's really a Canandaigua station. Maybe they should try serving that community. Or maybe they should go oldies with a heavy dose of Gary Lewis and the Playboys. I believe he lives near Honeoye Falls which is in their primary contour.

Was traveling through the area and actually heard a Yankees game on and not the 80's format... then a station ID with the Country/The Bull branding. Says a lot about what the management at HSBC Plaza thinks of this signal.

Easy mistake top make, but very easy to fix.

I'm gonna guess based on your description... that the station id/liner you heard was at top of hour during the game or coming out of a local break into the game... stations have templates used to properly fill out the breaks during satellite fed programming thats automated... and often times the liners and their cart numbers dsont change.. so someone forgot to check, thinking that liner was ok or had been updated

I contacted someone over at the cluster, apparently it was forgotten about during the changeover like you described Paul :)

I've worked at stations where some cart numbers never change but the things contained within do.. and liners dont always have a title on them that mentions the station name, so its a pretty easy oversight to make... because sometimes, the person doing the logs isnt the one that does the imaging or production.

Actually, Rox, it's not the only Canandaigua classic country station. WOKR 1310/95.5 flipped over a month ago. I've listened a few times on my car radio. One time jockless, another VT'd (?) with a local weather/sports read.

WOKR is running the Local Radio Network's 24/7 classic country format
