WISX to WUMR

Ever since The Breeze flipped to Tropical (LET'S RUMBA!!). Did IHeart make the right call or did they do something that was going to fail??

I can imagine that people like myself miss The Breeze.
 
While I miss the breeze too, here we go again.
Give them credit for trying Soft AC a second time, what, 13 years apart, just on different frequencies in the same market!
And if you think about it Hot AC was tried here too more than once, but it wasn't by the same company.
 
iHeart took an underperforming station in a market with a growing Latin population, and established a major market outlet for their national brand. So for fans of soft AC, this was a failure. For the company, this is an investment in the future. As I said, it depends on how you measure success. when you make an investment, it's usually for the long term, not just a few ratings books.

As long as Hispanics keep moving to Philadelphia, there's a good chance this format will grow.

Meanwhile the audience for 70s soft AC is not growing. Or at least it wasn't in Philadelphia.

I guess its called panic mode, grabbing at straws, they should of evolved to the new CHILL Cool Oldies format, ala WMKR, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s oldies, from Frank and Sammy to the Beatles and Billy Joel..

Not necessarily. It is quite possible that the programming team for iHeart's Spanish language group worked on the transition while they recruited the right person. Fernando Pérez is a magnificent programmer and he adds to the iHeart programming depth in many ways.

Average age of the listener would be 75. Advertisers would be funeral homes and depends. New meaning to "chill."
 
Anytime I pick up a real "oldies" station in a smaller market there's always funeral home commercials. They basically say, "You're old. You're going to die soon. Don't be a burden on your loved ones. Call us now."
Well, they have to advertise somewhere.

The community station is the logical place.
 
"The Breeze" is back -- at least on the Jersey Shore. As reported on Radio Insight, WHTG 1410 AM / W264DH 100.7 FM is now "The Breeze: The Jersey Shore's Feel-Good Station", with the same Oldies format as before.

This matches the former branding of its sister station 107.1 WWZY, which ironically made the exact opposite format switch from "Rumba" to "The Breeze" back in 2003. (WWZY was The Breeze until 2013, transitioning from Soft AC/Oldies to AC along the way.)
