Buffalo & Rochester June books

Oh no not until it gets down to a 0.01. 😁

The Who? Oh, that fringe hockey team that hasn't been in the playoffs for over a decade.
When 107.7 FM was a Sports format, they were only a 1 share station. It appears that people in Buffalo only care about Bills related talk. KB has a 0.1 proving there's no interest in national sports talk. Outside of Canada and a few select American markets, Hockey is not anywhere in the conversation with the NFL, NBA or even baseball...
Check out this article from Alan Pergament from August 2001:

WNSA had a 4.7 share at one point in Spring 2001. That was attributable to the Sabres. After the arrests of the Rigases in April 2002, the fortunes of both WNSA and the Sabres began to tumble. But at its start, WNSA was giving WGR a run for its money.

Agreed, there’s little interest in national sports talk. As this article notes, both WGR’s and WNSA’s ratings plummeted between the end of the Sabres season and the start of Bills training camp. KB, as a 24 hour affiliate of ESPN Radio, never attracted much of an audience. But local fans love talking about the Bills AND Sabres. And make no mistake. Once the Sabres are good again — and that will happen — WGR’s spring ratings will be healthy.

I don’t know where you live tbolt. I’m a lifelong Buffalonian. So, I‘ve been here for the Sabres successes. And this town was going absolutely bonkers when the Sabres were going deep into the playoffs in 1998 and ‘99 and again in 2006 and ‘07. In ‘06 and ‘07, Sabres talk on WGR was huge. In fact, the Bills were deep in their drought, and the NFL draft was playing second fiddle to the Sabres playoff run each of those springs. When this young Sabres team makes the playoffs in the next two to three years, fans will be talking about it. And they’ll be doing that on WGR.

Another interesting tidbit from this article. Pergament predicted Mike Schopp would soon be heading to a bigger market. I agreed at the time. I, too, clearly preferred Schopp over WGR’s Dickerson. But after the Rigas debacle, Schopp saw the writing on the wall and left WNSA to join Dickerson as co-host on WGR. That created quite a stir! And 21 years later, Schopp is still here talking Bills and Sabres on WGR’s afternoon drive.
