In the bottom of the 5th inning of tonight’s Dodgers-Giants game, Spectrum SportsNet LA announced the passing of former Dodgers announcer Vin Scully.

His passing comes three days shy of 20 years of the passing of another LA sports broadcasting icon, Chick Hearn of the Lakers. Their callings were unmatched in their respective broadcasts.

One of the memorable voices in Los Angeles history has passed away. How many different stations carried the Dodgers, in the L.A. days? My favorite memory is listening to KABC in 2008 to the NLDS vs. the Cubs and when they clinched their first playoff series win in 20 years - at that time Vin Scully, forever the voice of the Dodgers, dies at 94

Vin was simply the best. I could write multiple paragraphs, but I will just say this. As a broadcaster, he had no peer, but he was an even better man, a true role model for me and many others. He was the soundtrack to the first half of my life. He will be deeply missed. Thank you very much Vinny!!

Indeed Vinny was one-of-kind...he was the soundtrack of summer here in So Cal...he almost felt like a relative as he was in our homes for hours nearly everyday...just about everyone I knew that, like me, followed the Dodgers felt like they knew him, and the truth is we did know him..whether as a kid when we fell asleep to the transistor tucked under our pillow, to watching him call the game in HD on television, he was uniquely ours, a true treasure.
