WCGY

Fybush's NortheastRadioWatch (fybush.com by subscription) this week mentions the debut of WCGY-FM 97.3 in Jefferson NH. That sounds familar because if you shift two of those numbers you get 93.7--the frequency of the old WCGY 93.7 Lawrence MA.
Curt Gowdy-owned station that aired the automated RockGarden for years ("94...WCGY" jingle). It would go to oldies then rock, with Gowdy's daughter Cheryl Ann in charge. Later Eagle (hits of 70s-80s), Star, Mike (we play anything) before what was then Entercom moved WEEI there. Now Red Sox and sports talk.
The studios and antenna moved closer to Boston but the COL remains Lawrence.

WCGY..those calls are back.Format is not rock though...CGY will be C and W.

Whem 93.7 and 98.5 were sister stations. That could have happened again after the CBS merger-sale but with revenue limits what was then Entercom dealt WBZ-FM 98.5 to Beasley for Magic 106.7.
What is now the Red Sox flagship was started by longtime Sox voice Curt Gowdy--hi neighbor have a 'Gansett

Right; he bought it.Should have said Gowdy eventually owned it and years later it became Sox flagship...was wrong, and I did know how station started but an inaccuracy.

I don't believe it was ever the Sox flagship either unless your talking about today with the WEEI call.
No, it's the Sox flagship now as Audacy's WEEI-FM but years ago legendary Sox announcer Curt Gowdy owned it. That's the coincidence and connection; the station he bought and nurtured is now the flagship.
