Changes for Capitol Broadcasting Sports Radio

Looks like Capitol has consolidated its sports formats from three to two. Noticed this morning that WDNC 620--formerly "620 The Ticket" and co-owned WCLY 1550 which was, with its translator, AAA-formatted "95-7 That Station", were both simulcasting Capitol's "Buzz" sports brand, which has been--and still is--airing on two translators in Raleigh (99.3) and Durham (96 5)--as well as WCMC-FM (99.9 The Fan)'s HD-2 channel . "That Station" is still airing on the 95.7 translator, but is being fed from WRAL-FM's HD2 signal instead of via the WCLY signal.
WDNC, prior to taking the Ticket branding/programming, was part of the Buzz simulcast with 99.3 and 96 5.
WCLY aired The Ticket before the advent of "That Station" a few years ago.

This is because they're replacing The Buzz with WRAL News Plus on those frequencies.

They're advertising 96.5, 99.3, and 101.5 HD3 as the new frequencies for the format.

Wow! Capitol did something similar 28 years ago with WDNC under an LMA with then-owner Herald-Sun Newspapers. Then, they aired the AP's news format interspersed with audio from WRAL newscasts and updates from their personalities. Lasted about three years before Curtis LMAed--and eventually bought--AM 620, returning the station to a talk format, then sports before they sold it to Capitol. the Is there anything online promoting this new "WRAL News Plus" format?

Nope. No schedule or nothing.

However, there's a live audio stream on their website with the video version on their streaming TV app that's no longer in testing mode.

I wonder if this is some sort of placeholder format? Having worked for Capitol in the past and observing the way they do things, I would imagine more promotion would have been put into such a change. I'm kind of shocked they didn't make mention of this on their corporate site (capitolbroadcasting.com). It's just not their style to launch a new format and shift an existing one around with no promotion. Also, for such an innovative company, TV news on radio is a two decades-old trend that didn't do very well or it would've continued. Not to mention moving one of your sports brands back to what is essentially AM-only availability (to be fair, they are on one of 99.9's HD channels, but how widespread are HD tuners?). If 'WRAL News Plus' IS indeed the permanent format for 96.5 FM/99.3 FM, I do hope Capitol will maximize their news/weather/traffic assets and add more fresh content beyond simply airing the latest newscast's audio on a loop.
