I doubt it. However, their carriage contract states that QVC2 started at the beginning of the year, yet they are just airing it now. Probably were waiting on newer encoders to handle the extra sub. We could possibly see a .8 sub for something as some TEGNA stations have up to 8 subs, not including the ones that are channel-shared with another station or are hosting ATSC 1.0 channels of a ATSC 3.0 pilot station.WKYC NBC 3 has fired up subchannel 3.7, airing QVC2.
Home shopping channels are essentially like infomercial channels, giving stations quick, easy, found money.
Is this a placeholder for something bigger and better down the road?
Time will tell - but for now here we are.
But then again, why did their sister network Rewind TV end up on WOIO and not WJW?That is odd. Maybe it can be the next home of Antenna TV.
Highly doubtful. Antenna TV is owned by Nexstar which owns.....Fox8. Why would they let something go to another station that's competing against them?
That is odd. Maybe it can be the next home of Antenna TV.
WJW had an application to increase to 30 kilowatts about 10 years ago, but didn't go ahead with it because in the end, there was little to no benefit compared to their current 11 kW broadcast. Their 30 kW application was to throw slight nulls towards the southeast and southwest, mostly in part to protect WLIO in Lima, essentially mincing what they currently have now. The bulk of the 30 kilowatts would have been beamed over Lake Erie, practically benefiting nobody. But then again, why did their sister network Rewind TV end up on WOIO and not WJW?
Who knows? Maybe they wanted viewers to see that. FOX8 is "signal challenged". That can't increase their wattage. So there are certain areas in their viewing area that it can't be picked up OTA. Their only hope would be to start sticking repeaters up in areas that can't receive them. I believe 19 did that in the Akron area with a repeater on the tower that's off of 261/Collier rd.
They should have, but their theory was that VHF would have been better after the digital transition, once all the analog signals were turned off and not causing interference with each other. Plus, broadcasting on the VHF band yields in a lower power bill compared to UHF broadcasts.WJW should have stayed on RF 31.
doubt it. Tegna has been doing this across the country adding shopping channelsIs this a placeholder for something bigger and better down the road?
Well, like I said earlier, it's basically found money, so there you are.doubt it. Tegna has been doing this across the country adding shopping channels
Sinclair boxed them in with Comet and Charge! which were added during that time when Sinclair almost got Tribune and almost resold WJW to Fox.But then again, why did their sister network Rewind TV end up on WOIO and not WJW?
At least it's not KXTV, that Tegna station has *nine* subchannels, all in glorious 480i.Well, like I said earlier, it's basically found money, so there you are.
Won't happen - IF it happens - until next year at the earliest. In relation to WKYC, I saw an article where NBC is considering dropping the 10pm hour and giving it to affiliates. I can see 3 moving the 11pm news to 10 if that happens.
Kelly stays at 11a, Daily Blast Live (the Tegna produced hour long "hot take" panel talk show) moves up to 2p, Dr Phil moves up to 3p, and then it's news from 4-6:30p, NBC Nightly News at 6:30p, Jim Donovan's "Front Row" 7p newscast at 7, and Entertainment Tonight at 7:30p.Channel 3 seems - well, until I read the other thread about a new 4pm newscast - to be more into providing shows and entertainment content over just throwing newscasts on whenever there's a vacancy, but I do wonder... Isn't the 4pm hour there now occupied by one of those DailyMailTV-type shows? I'm guessing that's moving up to 11am, with Kelly moving down to 2pm.
