Where in South Central Wisconsin?1) south central Wisconsin
2) considered that but am not finding it on other frequencies; using portable with Select a Tenna which I haven’t had that problem with
3) seems to be on a NE/SW bearing

Thanks for the suggestions. Someone suggested a third harmonic of 570 in an old post. I’ll try to check that out but it will be difficult with 560 from Chicago booming in. Sounds like there could be some Cuban activity as well. That Wikipedia entry is unclear (as many such entries are, when they're not totally wrong) on whether 1710 is being used for broadcasting outside the United States. Could Cuba or Mexico have a station on 1710? Soccer play-by-play would indicate futbol-mad Mexico rather than baseball-mad Cuba.
Wish I had discovered this thread a little sooner. I had to make a run up to Janesville this morning (which is near Evansville), and I would have liked to have checked this out. I'm in Crystal Lake, IL, about 75 miles southeast of you. As it is, I'll check out 1710 during these next few days (and nights). I did hang out on 1710 a couple of weeks back one morning before sunrise. At one point, I heard a VERY faint signal that contained something that sounded like music, but the signal was much too weak....and brief....to ID.Evansville, about 20 miles south of Madison.
The lower end of the band was more "alive" this morning before sunrise than it has been in quite some time. Hopefully a sign of things to come as we move toward AM DX season. 570 at my location (Crystal Lake, IL) is usually pretty empty aside from 560 splatter. But this morning there was a good signal, which I presumed was either WNAX or WKYX. I didn't stay long enough to find out which one, however. Thanks for the suggestions.
