I'm just decidrf yo go on SDR's

I'm on the Boca Raton, FL SDR on 740 to see if Zoomer wil be there

Nope, I think Cuben. But playing Engish Music like AC..How can I check AM in Cuba?
For reasons that remain something of a mystery to me, CFZM is a tough catch in Florida. Of course, signals such as KTRH, KRMG, and whatever the Orlando 740 calls itself complicate things.

I've heard CFZM in Florida, but only a small handful of times. Considering how well they get out in other directions, I'd expect them to break through more often, but they don't.

As for Cuba, the best way to identify the Cubans is when you hear the same programming on multiple channels. The big signals are almost all occupied by the biggest national networks, Of course, hearing two signals from Cuba with simulcast programming is easier said than done.

R. Rebelde is heavy with news, sports, and talk. R. Progreso is more music and entertainment oriented. But each network caries at least some amount of all programming types. R. Reloj isn't on as many big signals, but is easy to identify with the time pips that can break through crowded channels, even when the rest of the audio does not. Finally, hearing even a smaller Cuban signal isn't impossible. As posted previously, several years ago I heard R. Enciclopedia on 530 in the Southern California desert. 10kw (suppodedly) on an uncrowded channel. Easy to ID because it's basically instrumental "elevator" music with all female announcers.

Hope this helps!

Did some DXing on AM last night after a long time and got few new ones:

870 presumed WFLO (Framville, VA) very poor with K-Love programming at 2355 CDT which was matched to their web stream way under WWL and the warbler. No ID heard so have it as tentative. Reported as being heard by others on Facebook.

900 WOZK (Ozark, AL) fair with "AM 900, FM 98.3 WOZK" ID. 2035 CDT

1090 WCZZ (Greenwood, SC) at 2120 CDT with "Magic 92.7" and Urban AC. Mixing w/KAAY.

1220 WFAX (Falls Church, VA) at 223 CDT with Spanish vocals. Mixing with WHKW and CFAJ. Confirmed with web stream.

No idea why it needs to be reported as tentative.. a match to a webstream on a frequency where they only have one station.. Dx'ers make this harder than need be sometimes and I don't understand the need to wait for an ID in a case like this, @CADXER

Since I'm just doing this for fun, and am not entering contests, for me it just comes down to what I'm comfortable with adding to the logbook. I've actually gotten burned a couple of times with out of date listings (NRC Log etc), and network stream related issues. As an example, I was hearing Texas Rangers baseball on a GY frequency. The team's station list had only one affiliate on the frequency. So that was it...until it faded up again in time for the TOH ID...and was another station. Turns out the team's list of stations hadn't been updated. @CADXER probably heard WFLO testing their transmitter, but I might want to confirm that another way somehow, maybe with an SDR.

FWIW, K-love has a station list on their website but doesn't list WFLO AM, only the FM. In fact, they don't list any AM stations.

The only AMs K-Love or Air 1 are on are those necessary to "feed" an FM translator. Typically if EMF gets an AM in a deal, the AM is spun off quickly.

I also got the same morning in Rocklin

KMZT 1260 Beverly Hills, CA. I was looking for KSFB
I've noticed while watching old "Rockford Files" episodes, that during car chases, a billboard for KGIL 1260 often appears, the legacy call letters of K-Mozart.

I like it when old movies and TV shows show radio and TV related things, like TV antennas on top of hills next to valleys, and old RCA BFA Bays on a tower in "Kindergarten Cop".

It’s been pretty dismal till today here in Alaska.

I’ve had my first logging this season if A3Z 1017 in Tonga.

Of note, I’ve also had 2NC 1233 Newcastle, NSW at just the right time with the ABC News top of hour fanfare.

I’ve had short but decently ok snippets of 4BH 1116, Today FM 1107KHz and 4TAB 1008Khz

And there’s Today FM on 1107kHz again with a live service for Queen Elizabeth from the UK at 1432UTC

I wouldn't call this mediocre, but close.. I've had all of these signals before and much stronger for longer periods of time than I had them today

Wed Sept 21.. Japan, Japan and oh my, more Japan!!

Not usually what i go for, but I could tell stuff was way better then normal so I started tuning around

One of the Japanese 1404's, running one of those all night laugh track shows as i call it. Likely JQOL.

NHK repeaters on 1386, 1521, 1593 and 1602.. and very very well at that.

1197 JOWL, confirmed thanks to matching audio to 1287 and getting a top of hour time tone and ID.

1368 JOTS thanks to matching audio to 1287 JOHR, and this being the only possible 1368.

Alot of what was heard today was upper band and pretty low power!

Finally!!!

I think I'm the last Chicago area DXer to snag WSVS from Crewe, VA on 800. Classic country music and a positive ID stound 4:45AM CDT yesterday morning. (9/20) Fair-weak, but alone and steady. No trace of CKLW or WVAL, which has a similar format, and what, at first, I thought I was hearing. I'm not sure whether they were on 250 watt night power or had powered up to 10kw for the day. But I suspect the latter. `

Fast forward to yesterday evening, and I thought the last day of summer might be a good time to check both the Arctic SDRs in Norway and Iceland for any sign that the DX season might be showing signs of getting started. When I checked around 9pm CDT there wasn't much to indicate that that was the case. The Norway SDR was all Europe and the Mideast. No trace of any Trans-Atlantic DX. The Westfjords SDR in Iceland wasn't much cause for encouragement, either. My "canary in the coal mine" WBBR, was in, but only fair at best. WBZ was also in, but very weak and prone to fadimg 590 and 1140 from Newfoundland were both missing.
Otherwise, conditions to continental Europe and the UK seemed to be about the same as usual. With a few signals from the Middle East a;lso in.

transpolar dx hasnt happened yet here... im pretty sure most of australia and NZ isnt "Tp" dx

I checked the Arctic SDR earlier and noted nothing farther afield than Iran. Nothing from higher angles at all. The good news is there seems to be less RF interference on that SDR than there was last winter. Probably a month before the Asian and NA signals start coming in.

Edit: On the Arctic SDR I'm hearing CNR1 on 1377 mixing w/Iran now (4:48pm CDT), so there's hope!

Heads up. WSB 750 Atlanta, GA is currently completely off the air. I am getting CKJH with classic rock and Radio Progreso, Cuba with musical program.

Nice catch... or "non-catch".

I have heard CKJH before, but Radio Progreso on 750 is a actually a new log. Believe it or not.
