Didn't expect that big jump in a mid-July to mid-August book, though. Expectations for the Patriots are, at best, modest. Was there really enough interest in them in mid-summer to fuel a significant increase? Or was it the Red Sox fans punting on their team's season and opting for Pats talk on the Hub as an alternative to the drumbeat of criticism of and frustration with the Sox that dominated WEEI-FM during the rating period?Fall sports are coming, and that has to be helping The Sports Hub.
True, but they also have the Celtics and Bruins. All three teams are geared up for the start of their season. Then add that the Celtics were in The Finals, and the Bruins did make the playoffs last year. I think the final ingredient is that WEEI is not carrying any Patriots programming this season. But yes, the horrible season also hurt WEEI.Didn't expect that big jump in a mid-July to mid-August book, though. Expectations for the Patriots are, at best, modest. It is great to see the two heritage Boston AMs continue to perform so well in the published age 6 and up ratings. WBZ is 6th and WRKO is 7th. The consistency is very impressive. Very few markets have two top 10 AM performers. Loyal listeners continue to turn to WBZ for their news, weather, traffic and sports. They turn to WRKO for entertaining and informative talk with Jeff, Grace and Howie. Congratulations to IHeartMedia for demonstrating their ability to deliver to their targeted audience.https://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb013
WBZ FM with a big gain to move back to #1
WRKO with a nice gain
Very few markets have two AM stations with big enough signals to be able to cover the whole market well enough to compete. Some markets, like Washington, DC, and Phoenix, AZ have no full market fulltime signal AMs. Others, like Cleveland, Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Houston, have just one.Very few markets have two top 10 AM performers.
Each commissioner echoed the chairwoman's remarks and Commissioner Brad Hill mentioned a segment he heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Toucher and Rich" morning show while stuck in traffic Thursday morning.
"Today I actually got a little frustrated with it because they had a guest on and they were talking about sports betting and they made a comment that some think that we might be able to make a bet in three weeks at our brick and mortar casinos and our simulcasting facilities. And, obviously, that is not going to happen," Hill said. "And it was frustrating because of the hundreds of thousands of people that listen to that show and think that they might be able to place a bet here in Massachusetts, it was frustrating."

Of course, the politician is typically clueless:Speaking of 98.5

The AQH audience of that station in the daytime dayparts averages about 25,000 persons. Not "hundreds of thousands".
But that is not the number of people who heard that particular conversation. And I doubt such a politician would know what "cume" was if it walked up and bit them.Perhaps he was referring to weekly cume for Toucher & Rich, which is 281,700.

But he referred to those who heard the particular discussion. In that case, he was off by about 1000%.He also would not know about AQH. He's thinking about potential audience.

Yet only about 25,000 would have heard that particular comment. He was speaking with data that was fully out of context. He said "the hundreds of thousands of people that listen to that show," not that particular discussion.
