A new role for Mike Missanelli

They should flip to a cheaper run Standards format, they have the legendary calls, WPEN FM Station of the Stars in FM HD Stereo, I would bet with all us old folks who gave WPEN high ratings in the past having them on FM would guarantee a 4.0 or higher. But in the radio business something that makes good sense would never materialize.

A.) Mike Missanelli doesn't work for WPEN anymore. Hasn't for a couple of months. Hence it saying his "post-radio career".

B.) If you want the station to make even LESS money, Standards is the way to go. The flow of advertising dollars will dry up faster than Death Valley because no one wants to advertise to the demographic that would listen to the format. It wouldn't guarantee anything ratings wise, and would guarantee even less in billing. That's not making good sense at all.

I've often heard people mention bringing back the standards. The experiments I remember in recent history were WJZ in Mt.Holly in the early 90's. After a year or so a disagreement between owners killed that and it became Radio Disney. There was also the short lived Martini Lounge on 1340. WRDV in Hatboro continues to play standards but I think they have been cutting back on the 30's and 40's Big Band/Swing in favor of more 50's Pop.

I am a huge Jazz fan and would love to have a full time FM Jazz station. But, this is a business and considering Jazz made up only two percent of CD sales last year it'll be a long wait. That being the case I'm perfectly content with listening to my own library.
