So are Dan and Alfie out at KEGL? Finally?

It should never have been it's own show, but I digress.

They aren't on The Eagle website and they've taken all mentions of Eagle off their "logos".

Heavier rumblings of format flip to sports - heavier than usual recently. (Which I think is the dumbest rumor ever. There's no way they can A) afford it and B) compete with The Fan and the Ticket.)

Unless they are going to take the Fox Sports affiliation back for KEGL I doubt iHeart would flip to sports.

I agree. I think it’s likelier that KEGL is going to pivot more to rock music. 1. It’s cheaper and 2. They need to get their audience back from KVIL, who has been cleaning their clocks lately by mixing their product with typical Audacy Alt product to surprising success.

KEGL kicked the van down the road with Russ Martin (who was their star yet hated their product and refused to play it) as far as they could. They are reaping what they have sown, and they need to get it over with and return to basics. Provide a good rock product and the audience that migrated to KVIL will likely return.

Alright let's do some real programming work here for a minute.

The music on Eagle is awful. There are so many songs that should never even have been thought about for that station.

I'm just going to take the last hour or two and put it under the microscope.

That's 12 songs in an hour and a half that really shouldn't be on that station.

Eagle's Cume is massive, but it's poor TSL is crippling it. My theory is that it's a HERITAGE rock station, and people tune in looking for a good song, but never find it and tune out.

Then throw in the horror show of the 2 talk shows (now 1) and it completely wrecks any conventional programming insight. It's not rocket science. Russ Martin's personality was in LINE with KEGL, so it was heavily accepted and loved. The Treehouse could only last so long on life support from what Russ Martin brought to it. Ben & Skin are almost everything the Eagle is NOT. I could go into a diatribe but it's not worth the time.

Musically, Eagle is a disaster. It needs a complete overhaul. Anything from 2000 til now. Skip the 90's alt and any other alt. Skip the classic rock. HOW MANY STATION IN THIS MARKET PLAY BILLY IDOL? HOW MANY PLAY GUNS AND ROSES? DEF LEPPARD? I could do this all day.

Hire a great morning show with an edge, play rock music that belongs on the station, and continue the shi**y iHeart contesting.

Simple.

yep, Format change is coming soon to The Eagle, i smell a Sports or Hip-hop format like classic hip hop.
Are they going to take the Fox Sports radio affiliation from KTCK AM/FM.

Not a good idea. I don't know of any station that runs Fox Sports as a 24/7 format that gets good ratings.

Perhaps the ESPN affiliation is still available, after KESN left. But not big ratings there either.

Their best bet is to fix the rock format and import talent from other markets. Perhaps Josh Innes.

Yes ESPN radio affiliation is still out there for DFW, but that dog ain’t gonna hunt when your corporate entity owns FOX SPORTS RADIO. Why would put a competitor network on your station?

They would be crazy to blow up a music station to run syndicated sports. Either network would be a mistake.

They should start by hiring someone who knows how to program a rock station. Then bring in someone who can talk both sports and rock music. They have a few like that in their system. They put the Detroit GM in charge of Dallas. I expect to see a few Detroit people on the air soon in Dallas.

The rumors about the sports format have been going crazy for the past 2 weeks.

It makes ZERO sense, but then I thought about it and well, playing big band songs could get more than a 1.3 - so . . .
