The Garth Channel is going away

My wife is a P1 for the Garth Channel, she's not going to be happy.

Tell your wife that its Garth who wanted to end it, not SiriusXM themselves.

This channel was more than just naming rights. Garth was directly involved. Garth doesn't do anything half way. He & Trisha did shows, and one of his employees was a liaison with Sirius. So if he's going to take a break after this three year tour, it seems like a good time for a hiatus on the channel. As he said, when he does another big tour, he might want to revive it.

I listen to this sometimes. Also, does anyone know what processing Siriusxm uses? Omnia,Orban, or something like that?

I can think of several country artists with eclectic tastes and willingness to push new talent and indie country artists as well as their own hits. Miranda Lambert comes to mind, as does Chris Stapleton. Heck, even Kane Brown, although he would probably take his channel in a more pop/r&b direction. I suppose it all depends on the artists' album release/big tour plans, which would set the legal payola wheels in motion -- megabucks for SXM, bandwidth for the artist to "curate."

There is nothing that restricts non-FCC regulated program sources from taking money for "broadcast". Even the federal legislation regarding payola going back to the late 50's investigations specifically applies to radio and TV.

Exactly. Payola laws only apply to broadcasting, not digital or satellite. That's how the laws were written, and the FCC has no jurisdiction over streaming.

I hope the replace it with music only. They've ruined Prime Country with too much DJ chatter.

It'll be a temporary pop-up channel at the moment.

I'd love to see something like the Prime Country "Deep Cuts" web station brought to satellite. Never going to happen since it would be redundant, but the extra variety would be nice. There was A LOT of country songs released over the 80's/90's. Prime Country just touches the tip of the iceberg.

They're running a themed "Red, White, & Booze" format on the channel right now. But I hear they have another specific artist-themed channel waiting in the wings:

Red, White and Booze
The music of country-themed bars and honky tonks across America, featuring a mix of country and rock songs from artists like Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more.

So far, my wife hasn't found anything she likes as a replacement for Garth. She tried Kenny Chesney's channel and didn't like it (way obscure music). So we'll see.

They haven't made any announcements as to what's going where as of yet, but perhaps this will be the home for their country music Christmas channel.
