Why they downplay their Fox affiliation? They have the Your Local News and it's reporters saying your local news. They don't even have the word Fox near 25 but Boston 25. Is WFXT leaving Fox and becoming an Independent station?.

Why avoid Fox branding?

Because the Fox name is inflammatory to Liberals and has very few conservatives.

IMHO the typical Boston area viewer cringes at the Fox name even though the network has very little to do with the no longer owned by Fox affiliate outside of the approx 20 hours a week of network programming they supply
 
The station started using the "Boston 25 News" moniker in April 2017. But 2 months before that, during Super Bowl LI (the 28-3 comeback game), they ran a promo that called themselves "25 News", and for 2 months after that their logo was just a plain "25".

Just because the Fox studio sold to ABC parent Disney but doesn't mean the Fox name is connected the GOP even before Donald Trump became president. Why drop the Fox name for the primetime and sports coverage, it would be better if Sunbeam was sold to Fox and WFXT sold to Comcast instead of buying a low powered station.
