Cox Media Group selling WFXT, acquiring WLNE

WBTS isn't going anywhere and they seem content with being the 4th station in town for news. It's not unlike what happened 20 years ago in San Francisco when NBC walked away from KRON and went to San Jose based Channel 11 which they later bought.

WFXT never recovered after becoming Cox-owned 7 years ago and decided Maria Stephanos made too much money and did not renew her contract.

A well known Chicago anchor who is good friends with Maria from college actually did this on WGN-TV


Murdoch can not buy WHDH/WSVN from the Ansins as that would put FOX way over the 39 percent of all U.S. TV households cap imposed by the FCC for television.


Could they skirt this 39% cap by working out an LMA with the Ansin family for WHDH/WSVN/WLVI? I am not a broadcast attorney but it might be possible.

But Murdoch has had an excellent relationship with Ansin in Miami so simply entering into an affiliate agreement would make sense.

Did u count the UHF discount because this Total Coverage and FCC Coverage (UHF discount) are separate things (Nexstar, Sinclair, Scripps, and Univision over the 39 percent total reach minus FCC reach which is the UHF Discount) https://tvnewscheck.com/business/article/nexstar-still-no-1-gray-scripps-allen-busy-buyers/

Again this is where the lawyers make their money

FOX uses UHF stations for the main network in Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston and Orlando and MyNetwork are all UHF except NBC and LA.

It is confusing

The Ansin family enjoys the broadcast business and everyone laughed when they put Family Feud at 8 PM weekdays but it worked.

The 9 PM news has worked well for them as has 10 PM. I don't think they really want to sell.

I still think that Cox 25 logo is the cheesiest I've ever seen. Just embarrassing for a major market station.

Unless the threat off low-priced streaming is the reason. KUSI, WISHTV, WRAL, Griffin, They're the last ones to gobble up
 
The affiliation agreement with Fox ends in June. Moving to WHDH is certainly an interesting -- and plausible -- scenario.

What happens to WFXT, though? MNTV has no Boston affiliate at the moment. Their news brand appears to have significantly weakened under Cox's ownership. Standard General does not appear to invest in its stations (just look at WLNE).

Their best bet may be to close the news department (Boston is not large enough to support five television news options.) and pursue both CW and MNTV affiliations.

Wow idk that then WHDH is the best option to get Fox programming if that's the case.

I enjoy the Boston 25 news especially the reporters.

again in my opinion WFXT should be bought by Comcast with NECN expanding in 24/7 news output to compensate for the lost of news time for NBC programing. WSBK should join CW since Paramount will still hold a 12.5 percent share. we want to solve the mess surrounding the beef between NBCU and Sunbeam
