Trevor Noah Leaving Daily Show:

Interesting question. Is it better to be the 11pm host of a cable show? Or the 12:35 host of a network show? Of course, The Daily Show is a great gig. Both Noah and Jon Stewart have kept The Daily Show one of the most talked about cable shows on television.

And it's only 30 minutes, four nights a week. The Late Late Show is 60 minutes, five nights a week.

IMO what viewers liked about late night hosts like Craig Ferguson and Letterman back when he had Late Night, is that they were a little odd, a little zany and didn't take themselves too seriously. They were happy to do some stupid bits and stunts and have some oddball guests on occasion. Think letterman with stupid human/pet tricks, dropping things off a 5 story building, jumping against a fabric wall while wearing a velcro suit and regulars like the filthy mouthed old lady librarian, Chris Elliott and Larry Bud Mehlman. Ferguson had Geoff Peterson the skeleton robot as his co-host, Secretariat and a few staff and characters he often interacted with as well as the occasional unique guest.

I'm not sure Trevor Noah can pull that off, if indeed that is still what viewers of that time slot are still looking for.

You never know what someone is capable of until they do it. I wasn't sure about Cordin when he started, but he came up with a few novel ideas. Not as on the edge funny as Ferguson, but he did funny things. I still watch Ferguson bits on YouTube because they're just so funny.

Could his next stop be The Late, Late Show on CBS?

Although I think he’d be great I am sensing he wants out of the new show (almost) everyday grind. Doing 7 years during the Trump administration and pandemic was exhausting for a lot of people including Trevot Noah I’m sure. He now has the name and following to do what he wants.

Based on his "farewell" message to the audience, it seems like he wants to get back into stand-up. Probably has some comedy specials lined up with streaming services. More along the lines of Chappelle with Netflix rather than Colbert with CBS.

The real question is, who takes over at The Daily Show? Do they send up a correspondent into the anchor chair, or look outside like they did with Trevor?

With respect, I believe Corden's chief savior was the Carpool Karaoke bit he came up with. If not for that, he'd have been gone long ago IMO. Also, it's been well publicized that off-camera he's known for treating his staff and others around him poorly. That makes it even more difficult for some to respect him, especially when there are others in more lofty positions who perhaps deserve to be more self-absorbed than Corden, but who simply aren't.

on this topic, i think who replaces him on The Daily Show could end up being someone not on the show currently, i could see Comedy Central merging "Hell of a Week" with The Daily Show and it becomes hosted by Charlamagne Tha God, and as for the Late Late Show, i think i could see John Oliver leaving HBO for this gig if WBD continues it's budget cuts and losing him to CBS would be a huge blow to HBO's weekend late night line up. Trevor wanted to leave to go back to his stand up roots, especially since late night is struggling thanks to Streaming and the pandemic and the nature of modern politics are just a hard time to be funny without fear of one side being so offended, they are willing to go try to silence them.

I'm not shocked by Trevor Noah leaving the Daily Show yes he is good when he was there. But then again given the nature of the show that wore Noah down. It's the post Trump era that's grabbing more attention and it's a case of parody meets reality type situation.

Anytime Lindell, Boebert and Greene are discussed you can't tell if is parody or for real given that these people put out a crazy character for the cameras.

Some of the hosts argue abuse of power meets parody.

Here is one of the earliest segments of the Trevor Noah edition of the Daily show back when Trump was considered as a candidate for president. Apparently in Noah's case he noticed Trump's candidacy to stuff he saw in countries he been too.

Leslie Jones named as a guest host for The Daily Show.

NEW YORK (AP) — Comedian Leslie Jones will be taking a temporary whirl as host of “The Daily Show” this week, and she says viewers can expect her trademark — some blunt, edgy humor.

“I’m not Jon Stewart. I’m not Trevor Noah, I’m Leslie Jones. So I’ll be bringing that vulnerable honesty,” the “Saturday Night Live” alum joked in an interview on the eve of her new gig.

Jones’ stand-in as host on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on the Comedy Central topical show yields to four more upcoming weekly gigs by comedians: Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman.
