A lot has changed since Hurricane Hugo, as it was a much stronger storm hitting Charleston, and all of the other local media was off the air. That will likely not be the case this time. In fact I don’t believe WOKV went to daytime facility as the last time a hurricane hit Jacksonville. I do remember hearing 600 WBOB though

In Southwest Cuyahoga County (Cleveland, Ohio market), between 7:30 and 8:35pm (when I stopped listening), I had WCCR AM1260 in Cleveland on. Battling with it was a music station, that could have been an Adult Contemporary station or a Religious music station. I didn't recognize any of the songs played that were fading in and out. Who might that be?

@ Gr8 Oldies: In Philly, I ran some tape -- too many cassettes here to locate it right now -- of WOKV that early 1989 morning. Hard to believe that was over 30 full years ago. They had to've been on their omni pattern. It's odd; that day pattern has a lousy enough signal in The Villages FL but it got out that early morning, when Hugo hugged FL's Atlantic coast. Ironically as well, Hugo indeed hit Charleston.
WBT had a couple of fellows on the air talking about Hugo. I can't say they were joking about it, but they seemed to act as if it were some sort of nuisance. About an hour or so later, I tuned WBT back in. Dead carrier. No audio, only signal.

@ John Basalla: Syracuse might be your 1260 music station. The also-religion Trenton NJ station is a distant second-guess. I've heard mx on both of them. And thanks for mentioning your dismay at the genre of music. Today I'll find myself on some random FM station and cannot discern if the format is A/C, Contemporary Christian, or Country, lol.

The 1260 in Syracuse, New York is a Sports formatted station. The 1260 in Trenton, NJ is an EWTN Radio Network station. Their schedule grid does not suggest music on at that, or at any time, for that matter. It is interesting that on this station, they don't air "Kresta In The Afternoon". They run Teresa Tomeo's show during that time.

Yay. New catch. Heard Thurs night Sept 29nd.
Fred Wallace of 560 CFOS Owen Sound Ontario just returned my call and essentially verified my hearing of them that night. He said that's the type of music they play at that hour -- a show called 'Remember When'.
I'd seen the CFOS web site and found them to emphasize Sports, with some oldies programming, so I didn't 'count' them at first. But Fred Wallace and I had a nice phone conversation on the phone, vis-a-vis call letters (my 'CF_N' and his phonetic 'CFOS') and that he knew about his station once reported being heard in Philadelphia.
Was that you, Ryan Howard" Lol.
It's nice to've gotten another 560 logging, what with WFIL the usual day and night regular. But there HAD been noticeably louder-than-usual Northern US signals that night.

New one in the wee small hours: KSGM 980 Chester, Ill., 3:36 a.m. with a "Classic Country KSGM" announcement and then back to country music. Rose out of the crowd and sank back in within a minute. 470 watts night. Two of my newest seven logs are on 980.

Also the rare K call in Illinois. Only one?

The only that comes to mind is 1190 KQQZ Fairview Heights, Illinois. However they are not on the air anymore.

There is also KUUL East Moline, Illinois on 101.3 FM. Also KTLK 104.9 FM licensed to Columbia, Illinois, but their stick is in Missouri.

My first radio job in the Mississippi Delta was near a K call.. what was then KBUD Sardis, Missippi owned by Dr. Flinn (now WKFF, owned by Klove)

Much like the KMOX transmitter is in Illinois.

Rocklin, CA

Hearing KYET 1170 Golden Valley, AZ running on Day Power

I heard them once... in wyoming... when on the 1 watt night power. Had it verified by the engineer.

(FYI, had they mistakenly not dropped power.. hed have fessed up and told me....)

Or the Cape Girardau, Missouri station that moved to Illinois across the river and kept the K calls.

FINALLY logged for sure one of those 'closest-unheard' nuisances today on the patio, fortified with a GE SR 2 and a martini, during a placid SSS today 10-6.
It was WRNJ Hackettstown NJ on 1510. They rahooeda game Friday night between a couple of HS football teams to be broadcast there..
Plus there was an ad for some place in 'Hackettstown', then a '1510 R-N-J'.
Usually, 1510 here in the middays is C&W WWSM 1510 from downstate Annville-Cleona (Lebanon)

WWSM is off the air presumably turning in its license

@ SomeRadioGuy .....
I never even noticed WWSM was gone. With all the noise and QRM the past few years -- most of it cleared up here now -- I had not listened for AM music.
WWSM used to play Classic Country songs. And I mean classic C&W. I'd swear they used to play songs by the Fathers of the Pioneers. And some of the Holiday songs they'd put out for listeners' consumption might've led to some slashing their wrists; the lyrics were that sad and coal-country desolate.
I will miss WWSM. They'd show up often amid FIVE Country stations in the Harrisburg PA book.

A new one on 710 as dawn broke on Saturday: KGNC Amarillo, Tex. with “710 and 97.5 KGNC” slogan about 20 minutes after a WDSM Sterling, Wis. relog. If WOR was there, it was in the mush.

Little 100 watt non directional CFVP 6030 Calgary, Alberta was in the clear about 0530UTC Sunday, relaying funny 1060. It's usually not heard or it's there but covered up with the Cooban jammy jam jammer masheen meant for Marti, but seemingly left on 24/7. CFVP was about S9 to S9+15 last night with my Aresq AQ`1, 2 tloops and DXE Preamp abouty1800 miles away
