Never thought I would see the day that KTWV consistently beats KIIS by such a wide margin. Looks like this may have been going on for awhile; I haven't really been paying attention.Well, KROQ is beating KPWR. That’s about all that’s positive about them from what I see.

When will it be ok to start beating the drum for a format change at 94.7? (Sarcasm)!while KTWV is 15th.
I've been saying that since KTWV bounced KMET those many many moons ago. When will it be ok to start beating the drum for a format change at 94.7? (Sarcasm)!
And what format would you suggest? (continuing the sarcasm)When will it be ok to start beating the drum for a format change at 94.7? (Sarcasm)!

But here we are and I *gasp* have listened and enjoyed KTWV programming lately when I swore I would NEVER breeze 94.7 ever again since the Valentine's Day Massacre.
Paraquat Kelly (RIP) and the Good Doctor are probably upset with me now.![]()
I understand this is (always) your point but it wasn't mine. There are more radios tuned into KTWV, regardless of station demo focus or monitization rate of the tuned-in audience.KIIS beats KTWV in 25-54, and it is #1 in revenue while KTWV is 15th.
KIIS has been the victim of "death by a thousand knives" for some years now. But by far the greatest challenge has come from the Meruelo and SBS Spanish Hits formats based on reggaetón and rhythmic pop. Add in the existence of a Hot AC, two Churban / Urban stations and, most importantly, the weak and less plentiful supply of mainstream KIIS-friendly music and you have a perfect storm.I consider KTWV to be something of a niche station whereas KIIS is a hit radio station. For the niche station to get that many more listeners is quite an accomplishment, even if it cannot be monetized.
There is nothing online about Paraquat passing. There absolutely would be.Paraquat passed? I missed that. He had been in poor health for many years. Still very sorry to hear this.
He was by far my favorite KMET personality (along with the Good Doctor). He had amazing wit and was able to ad-lib hillariously. His top of the hour newscasts were appointment listening for both my dad and I. RIP Paraquat.
Side question: His buddy Jim Ladd was off of SiriusXM for several weeks and I think just returned yesterday. Anyone know why he was out?
Flip, when you look at 6+ numbers, you're looking at a number other than cume, which is the number of listeners. It's possible for a station to have better ratings than a station with more listeners if the fewer listeners stay tuned longer.I understand this is (always) your point but it wasn't mine. As a comparison, I think their on-frequency predecessor, KMET only achieved similar 6+ numbers for just a few years at the height of its popularity (and that of AOR) in the late 70s. KTWV has been a much better run station for many years with the consistent numbers to prove it.
In just the LA MSA (not including the Riverside/San Bernardino, Oxnard and High Desert markets) KIIS averages about 2 million in cume, while KTWV is about 1.75 million. They are very close, and the fact that ethnic groups and 35+ use somewhat less streaming than non-Hispanics, stations like KTWV have a great advantage due to the older median age target.Flip, when you look at 6+ numbers, you're looking at a number other than cume, which is the number of listeners. Thanks, David. Still, to Flip's point, there are roughly a quarter-million more people listening to KIIS than to KTWV. That looks like a small margin in L.A., but it's not an insignificant number of people. In just the LA MSA (not including the Riverside/San Bernardino, Oxnard and High Desert markets) KIIS averages about 2 million in cume, while KTWV is about 1.75 million. In the last 12 months, the PUR (Persons Using Radio) among 18-34 in LA has gone from 4.2 to 3.4. In 2019 it was 5.7. So 18-34 has lost 40% of its listening levels in just 3 years. On the other hand, the loss in 35-64 has been 25%, meaning that far fewer older demo listeners have quit radio or reduced their listening.
In Cume, September 2019 to September 2022, 94% of the 35-64 persons used radio three years ago while it is now 87.5%. But in 18-34, it has gone from 90% to 75% in three years.
Paraquat is still alive. He has progressive multiple sclerosis and is a quadriplegic. He lives at the Motion Picture Hospital in Woodland Hills. He posts frequently on Facebook. There is nothing online about Paraquat passing. There absolutely would be.
I stand absolutely corrected. I shouldn't do radio analysis first thing in the morning. Share and cume not the same thing of course. I still believe it is a helluva achievement for KTWV though to even be that close. Thanks, David. My mistake, I thought I had read he passed a couple of years ago. He has been extremely sick for a long time and I might have miss associated his terminal case of MS as his death nail. Annette Funicello suffered with MS for years before it finally caught up to her.Paraquat is still alive. He has progressive multiple sclerosis and is a quadriplegic. Normally, when Pop goes down, Country goes up. I'm not seeing that this time! What happened to KIIS it’s been down every book every month?
