Dick Helton Retiring from KNX Friday 10/14

KNX has been running tributes from other staffers - I heard one from Bob Brill this evening.

Helton moved to KNX in June 1998 after a long career as PM drive anchor at WBBM in Chicago.

Working first as a general assignment reporter, then chief political reporter at KNX, he eventually slid back into the anchor chair during AM drive about 15 years ago after Dave Williams exited the station.

He's a great foil for the high energy Vicky Moore and has a wonderful radio voice. He'll be missed, but in his late 70s, it was probably time to hang up the headphones.

Any word on who will replace him in drive time? His voice certainly "is" Los Angeles, so I'm sorry to hear he's retiring.

Will be the first big move for new PD Alex Silverman.

Prior management was very hot on Brian Ping. Who knows what direction Alex wants to go.

Alex Silverman visited the booth at around 9:35AM and while chatting with Dick, Dick said "Vicky will still be here, Mike will be here."

In the past Mike Simpson has done occasional vacation fill in for AM Drive alongside Vicky Moore and sounds great as the straightman to Vicky's high energy delivery.

The schedule for next week on the Audacy App shows morning drive as "LA's Morning News with Vicky Moore, Mike Simpson, and Jennifer York."

Official word via ALL ACCESS---Mike Simpson will succeed Helton in mornings.

I worked with Mike at KFBK for a couple of years before he went to San Francisco and then L.A. Great guy and terrific talent. Good for him!
