End of a era

It was annouced today that the Cartoon Network is shutting down their studios and merging it with WB Discovery.

It's a end of era of a network that has been around for 30 years.

I think there will be some sort of combination of Cartoon Network/Boomerang and shows from Discovery Family but they may still call it Cartoon Network. Another question is what will they do with Adult Swim.

I’m considering getting the Boomerang stand alone streaming service. Well this go away? Or Should i just wait for the new WBD+ when it arrives next year. Thanks

I agree. The article doesn't say the channel is going away. There was something created in 1994 called Cartoon Network Studios, and it's being combined with co-owned Warner Brothers Animation. These are production arms of their respective companies. This is something that probably should have been done years ago when Turner and Warner merged. It seems to be simply an efficiency move.

NBC universal, Paramount and Warner Bros. Have all gutted original programing at their cable channels for streaming serives like Peacock, Paramount+ and HBO Max. Why would anyone pay for cable anymore at this point

From their social media

I got a chuckle from CN's reaction...just more moronic hand-wringing by the social media masses  . This is inevitable when mergers and consolidations happen.

There are still a lot of people who don't have quality TV/Radio signals (mostly rural areas) and the digital OTA transition didn't help them at all. My folks used to live in French Gulch, CA. ( a bit west of Redding, CA.) On both sides of the main road (the only road) there were 1,000 foot mountains which effectively blocked all TV and most radio so they had to subscribe to their little community cable service to receive any usable signal at all.

The old analog signals had much more range (OTA) than the digital signals do. And while you could watch the weaker analog signals with snow you can't do it with digital. Some stations use repeaters to reach distant towns but they usually only cover a limited area and don't do well with hilly/mountainous terrain.

Convenience. Simplicity. There is no programming being affected by this change at Cartoon Network.
And often the packages of cable and Internet make the cable service quite reasonably priced. While the carriage fees determine to a great extent the cost of cable, they have pricing flexibility on Internet. I just renegotiated to get a better price and got a 2tb/2tb service upgrade as part of the process.

We are seeing a considerable churn among subscribers to cable and paid services, starting with the huge drops in Netflix subscriptions and their introduction of an ad supported tier. With the enormous inflation we are witnessing and the probability of some kind of true recession, this kind of churn is very likely to continue.

Cartoon Network will remain I was surprised that CN & WB never merged when Ted sold his networks to Warner Bros. I think make Discovery Family into Adult Swim and shutdown Boomerang and just put it onto HBO Max.
