Comcast Pulls Plug On G4 TV, Ending Comeback Try For Gamer-Focused Network

Not Shocking given that Comcast cut G4 and we centered it previously surrounding NBC to cut the 10pm hour and boosting attention to Peacock app. Note this article mentions that Comcast Spectacor was the division that made the cuts.
The current iteration of G4 is smaller and less focused on traditional linear TV than was its predecessor. It has announced a programming slate including a revived version of original G4 mainstays Attack of the Show! and Xplay, plus comedy Boosted, Japanese competition series Ninja Warrior, esports competitions and Dungeons & Dragons limited series.

Along with putting content on YouTube and social media, G4 has a multi-year agreement with Twitch and pay-TV distribution deals with Verizon FiOS, Cox, Xfinity TV and Philo.

Several media and tech ventures centered on the gamer community have hit turbulence recently, with Facebook shutting down its gaming app and Google winding down gaming service Stadia. VENN, a start-up billed as the “MTV of video games,” also just went bust.

Another issue here and this was during its relaunch G4 had to compete against Twitch infleuncers. Yes Twitch is viewed in the same lines Youtube was viewed in the past.

many people on social media are blaming it on a rant on X-Play from one of their personalities as the cause of the second death of the network.

A story about said rant:
G4 Host Slams Xplay Audience’s Sexist Expectations

but truth is, this was doomed cause of the fact this G4 revival went on Cable instead of being a peacock exclusive and they spent way too much money when they could had done it bare bones to begin with.

Not surprised that G4 is gone once again I didn't think it was going to last it should've been more Peacock, Pluto type streaming.

Who knew it was back though. They never promoted it.
You're right. Comcast doesn't promote anything it carries on Xumo. I've found a bunch of channels I like there, but discovery of them has been purely random. I scroll down the lineup/schedule every so often and look for something that interests me. Lately I've been hooked on Boxing TV, which has a huge library of fights ranging from big-name championship bouts from HBO's archives to four-round preliminary fights from New Jersey, New York, Maryland, California, even Australia and South Africa. Earlier this year, I found another sports channel called FTF, which was carrying Japanese baseball (with English commentary) at 1 p.m. daily until sometime in late July, when the channel suddenly disappeared from the lineup. This streaming channel has a huge potential audience, but Comcast acts like it doesn't exist when it comes to telling its subscribers that it exists.

How much money did Comcast lose during the life of G4. They paid a lot to acquire TechTV and merge the networks only to shut the whole thing down years later.

As far as we are aware Comcast has shut down some cable channels for some time from Olympic Channel and NBC Sports Net all to boost viewers over to Peacock. Money for G4? Who knows given that the network was too niche to make a profit for Comcast.

channel did it's formal sunsetting on November 18, 2022, 2 days after the 1 year anniversary of it's relaunch. the channel is now no more officially.
