Looking for some KISW, KZOK and KXRX playlists

I'm curious if anyone has any early to mid '80s playlists for KISW and KZOK? Also some mid to late 80s for The X.

Near the end of the year, I'm always reminded of the Top 1000 lists and makes me nostalgic for what I remember was both depth and breadth of radio then. It's possible the playlists may change my memory, though. Thanks.

I guarantee the "Top 1000" year end lists absolutely altered your perception of playlists from back in the day. As they do to pretty much everybody. There were a TON of songs that got one play a year, and it was on that weekend. :p

ARSA Surveys have a playlist of currents for selected weeks from 1984. 1985, 1986 and 1987 for KISW and KZOK. They have a Top Songs for KXRX in 1990 and 1992.

The KISW playlist from the 80’s was interesting. Several artists you wouldn’t attach to KISW today.

If memory serves, there was a time where they branched out into new wave, but the guitar stuff as opposed to the non-guitar stuff. Flock Of Seagulls, Jon Butcher Axis, etc. They even devoted a call-in hour to explain the shift, but a lot of callers wanted to talk about metal. The shift didn't necessarily last, as mainstream rock was pretty rich with decent music during the mid and late decade (Ratt, G'n'R, etc.). KISW didn't ditch hard hitting rock for the wave related stuff either, which is to their credit, as hard rock was their bread and butter. I don't think the wave stuff they added messed up the sound of the station any. It still was guitar-heavy.

Just going by memory here, though.....

How do I access that? Thanks.

I type in ARSA surveys on google search; you then have the option of stations or surveys; either one works. Once you arrive, in the upper right hand corner, you can choose call letters or the city (I usually use calls). The surveys are very Top 40 heavy, but the AOR’s (which interest me exclusively) are becoming more represented.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I was able to find those. Too bad there weren't more for The X.

Are there any actual playlists, though? Something that would list all the songs played at a certain time and date? I'd love to see the mix of old to new back then.

I have a recording of that KISW call-in show you're referring to (called "Talk Rock") apparently the second one they'd done. It's nearly 90 minutes in length, just Steve Slaton and Beau Phillips taking calls from listeners and talking about rock radio, specifically as it relates to KISW and its competition circa September 1982. I might post it to YouTube sometime. It's a pretty interesting snapshot in time.

That would be an incredible listen. If you do ever post, be sure to let us know.
