RIP Colio defined mid 90's rap.
He was on SNL last night. I guess it was delayed by the Notre Dame games, which mean no prime time rerun.
Rappers don't seem to have a very long life span, not living past their 50's. The lifestyle must takes it toll on their body.
That's an absurd statement and a generalization. Actors, musicians, construction workers, obese people, et al.. die in their 50s.
Coolio may have succumbed to cardiac arrest, but no official cause has been released...
I can remember in the 90s hearing about all the 60s and 70s artists passing away in their 50s.
And yet Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are close to 80, and still rocking. Two that everyone thought would die young. Go figure.
Other than gun violence, comparing causes of death for rap stars vs. rock stars is unfair to the rappers. Rock ('n' roll) has been part of the mainstream music scene since the early '50s, rap only since the late 80s. That means many more stars of the former genre have reached old age than stars of the latter. When the oldest living stars in a particular genre are only around 65 while the oldest in the other are in their 90s, the truth becomes obvious -- the percentage of early deaths vs. deaths at an average or above average age from natural/substance-induced causes among rappers is nearly 100 percent, since hardly any rappers have yet to attain the average age of death!
I'd hazard a guess that rap deaths from gun violence are far ahead of gun deaths in other genres, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Selena and Dimebag Darrell notwithstanding.
