Jerry Tracey is retiring from WVTM-13

Like so many others, he's had to live in the shadow of the Spann man. I don't get to see much weather coverage from B'ham anymore unless I'm checking in during severe outbreaks via streaming. What do you think makes him the best? He has always seemed knowledgeable and competent to me but a little bland, and possibly lacking in some geographic knowledge. James Spann seems to know every little back road and greasy spot on the highway even without the assistance of his computer technology.

I don't even know who is on WIAT's weather team these days but remember it seeming like it belonged in a smaller market. And Fox 6, from what I've heard of locals, seems all-in on hyping the weather and scaremongering.

Same person, different alias, long story...

Jerry and James are both great. IMHO, for a mid-major market, both of them outkick the coverage. What separates Jerry from James is that he's always seemed a little calmer when covering severe weather. Both of them give the aura of being far more knowledgeable about the geography of Alabama than their peers on WBRC or WIAT.
