They played We Belong by Pat Benetar on KZOK

What? They played THAT on KZOK at 2:35 today. “What the heck was that” heard at every construction site with the station on.

I don't understand your concern here. Are you saying that Pat Benetar is not a core artist of the classic rock format? Are you saying one of her 10 biggest hits should not be played on classic rock radio? I am just not understanding here. I am willing to bet that a station like KZOK that is very effective at executing this format probably has plenty of data supporting this selection.

Where was your concern the last 5000 times they spun this tune? 🤪

Not that complicated, the song is LiGHT ROCK and sounds completely out of place on KZOK. Besides that it overlaps the other two stations in the cluster. What else could they be playing to retain their core demo instead of that Pat Benatar track? AC/DC or Foo Fighters. Rolling Stones, Steve Miller? Haha, get real research from actual listeners of the format in demo and they’ll tell you that song doesn’t fit. Research.

You don’t need to understand. It’s ok. The true data supports the next songs in rotation, contrasting this track as out of place.

Some classic rock stations would NEVER play We Belong. Her other more uptempo songs, yes. On the other hand, some classic rock stations would be fine with this. Benetar is a core artist.

Same with some Rod Stewart songs. He's a core artist too. But would you play Do Ya Think I'm Sexy or Tonight's The Night? When I hear some Classic Rock songs, I wonder why they rock so hard? KLOS Los Angeles, WTUE Cincinnati, WBOS Boston would probably not play much Elton John, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Bros., Hall & Oates. Those stations rock pretty hard. Yet all these artists are central to other, more mainstream Classic Rock stations. Where does KZOK fall?

I'll bet KZOK played We Belong during office hours. It is probably dayparted, not heard at night.

Uh, hello, her biggest hits are now 40 years old. I think that more qualifies her to be played on Classic Rock. Somebody actually started a thread about this???
Yep someone started a thread about a song played on a Seattle radio station on a Seattle radio discussion board. Hard to believe isn’t it?

Pat Benatar is a rock staple. It was the AOR radio stations that made her popular. Yes, the same format that played Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Who, etc. Classic Rock today is iAOR in the 80's. I think the problem is that you don't like Pat Benetar's music. There is plenty of music on the radio that I don't care for, but news flash, radio is not programmed only for one persons taste in musc. So when KZOK spins "We Belong" , change the station to KISW until it's over. So, uh hello .

“I think that” I’ll leave it there, your projection along with assumptions are happening here. To clarify, I don’t mind Pat’s music, just expressed this particular song doesn’t sonically fit on a Classic Rock station that plays the songs from artists you just listed off. That doesn’t mean all of her songs don’t fit. Uh hello. Yes, people in the core demo are tuning out when this song is played. I watched it happen. That’s fact. Research.

Go eat a pizza that has pepperoni olives sausage and banana slices on it. Tell which topping isn’t like the others and shouldn’t be there.

Believe me, when "We Belong" came out, the song was played constantly on KUPD and KDKB, the two AOR's in Phoenix more often than her other songs while it was hot. KZOK would not be playing it if research showed it would make listeners tune out like you said. Not sure, what you consider to be research, but.... can't resist, one last...uh hello
