Format flip coming to an Los Angeles FM?

Ever heard of indie 103.1?
Yes, and they realized the mistake, both in programming and sales.

They only do non-Spanish formats in markets where an acquisition has given them more signals thaan they can support in Spanish. They also do that when they have both English and Spanish TV sister stations, but that is only done in a couple of markets... and ones where only a tiny percentage of Hispanics speak Spanish, such as El Paso.

Did I ever say the word flip in my original tweet?

I said changes and that is indeed what happened. Woody was indeed on the right scent, but nothing happening at KDAY "right now".

no but when you say “changes to low rated fm” people are going to speculate regardless. But this is smart, compete against a station in your own building

Define “successful” because if it’s the same kdld-FM I’m looking at in the ratings right now…
The KDLE/KDLD combo bills a couple of million a year, and that is better than it has done in the past. But it isn't sold alone, as the KLYY/KSSE pair is sold with it. Together, they have close to a 20 share of Spanish dominants in the market... and that is how Spanish language tends to be bought... as a separate universe.

That’s awesome! I’m glad to see entravision doing well. they run a great nbc affiliate in Palm Springs. they seem to know what they’re doing there

The changes Power 106 made today are smart, in my opinion.

In fact, I suggested on this very forum last summer that they should consider a pivot to a gold leaning playlist.

They do have good local teams in most markets. However, their Spanish language TV in Palm Springs has horribly written local news, full of wrong word usage, grammatical errors and disastrous spelling of the subtitles.

Seems to me this change has been rumored around here for a long time. I noticed they kicked it off with a $106K giveaway. I also see they're basically keeping the same airstaff. That staff includes Nick Cannon, who does a daily syndicated show that also airs on The Block WXBK in NYC, which also specializes in classic hip hop. That may have been the tip off that this change was coming.

I am sure this will affect 93.5 but the question is how? Will they flip it to something else? I seriously doubt they will keep a station as it is that competes with there sis

Ever since I worked in my first same-market duopoly in '63, I realized that even a 50% overlap in music but with 50% totally different, stations are not in the same format.

Why? So you can kill off FM too?
Here’s a newsflash (no pun intended) for you: news/talk and variants thereof have been on FM dating back well before 2022. Were owners already ‘killing off FM’ in the 60s by putting all-news (looking at you, WABC-FM) and talk radio outside of AM?
