Nobody was still doing disco in 1981.
And KESS was not "Spanish Talk". For lack of another name, "Spanish Variety" was the best format descriptor.
 
I assume "1310 KALM" is a typo from the original - it was KAAM I believe until the Ticket started. I also think KAFM was rock during the day and jazz at night back then.

Then again, it was 40 years, and a lot of brain cells, ago...

KAFM (or maybe it was KZPS by then), did have a hybrid CHR/Jazz format, but that came a little later. I moved to Dallas in 1984, and I remember them mixing some jazz (or "Enerjazz", as they called it) in with the pop music after I'd been in town for a year or two. During that period they also did run a jazz block in the evenings. So I'm guessing that was in 1985 or 1986. The jazz went away when they shifted towards their current format.
