FCCData.org adds RadioDNS

RecNet has added RadioDNS to FCCData.org. RadioDNS is one of the most underrated uses of IP in radio.

It's really cool to see it in action. FCCData.org is showing what would show up on a RadioDNS enabled receiver in a car.

Some examples:

KRWM Bremerton, WA, with 3 subchannels

KAER, Mesquite, NV with the schedule populated (although currently blank)

(I think she did an amazing job with this, and maybe even accidentally made a TuneIn replacement)

Edit to add: the stream links are for Service Following-- when you leave the coverage area of the station you're listening to, you're prompted with an option to continue listening via the internet stream.

Awesome for those of us who are Dxers and need a PI code for a station matched!
 
i cant access fccdata unless i turn on a vpn. No ViaSat customer can access fccdata and @Michi hasn't done anything different.. and ViaSat tech support is USELESS.. i spent 20 minutes on the phone with them 6 months ago and they tried to blame the problem on WEATHER.. its been going on for over a year.. . ive done trace route DNS stuff in CMD and there's stuff missing or seriously slowed down in the ping process
 
Sorry that is happening.

I've attached a screenshot of the main screen with the logo, and links to the schedule, Service-Following links, station defined description and station defined links. I've also attached a screenshot of the schedule.

All the data is served up by RadioDNS. It's pretty neat. I rent cars often when I travel, and will look for a car with RadioDNS to experience it in the wild.

What DNS servers are you using? Have you tried using Cloudflare's or Google Public DNS?

Tried it all, nothing works.. and hasnt for any ViaSat customers smarter than me.

This particular thing is not curated by RecNet, they're displaying what RadioDNS populates in the appropriate fields.

However, they have an unrelated service, called MyLPFM, that offers basic RadioDNS feed and asset hosting.

We will be announcing a free hosting offer for all LPFMs to have their logos and metadata served. REC Clients with a historical minimum spend of $350 will also have their streams listed so Service Following will work.

LPFM stations must have, at a minimum, RDS encoding enabled with their correct PI code programmed.

Please stay tuned at recnet.com or at the REC Facebook Page (facebook.com/recnet) for more details.

For now, please sign up for an account at myLPFM (mylpfm.com) so you will be ready when we turn on the functionality. The RadioDNS functionality has been built, we are testing and waiting for approval from FEMA on some EAS related functionality that is also being added to myLPFM.

surprise, that doesnt work for me either.. just wanted to check it out.

I wish i could get to a higher level of tech support and viasat
 
I have Viasat as a backup at my house when comcast goes down. I switched over to it and confirmed that FCCdata.org does not work on Viasat for some reason.

When your crappy Viasat two year deal runs out, go sign up for SpaceX Starlink It's SOOO much better than ViaSat or DirecWay. Minimal latency and I'm averaging about 20Mbps up and down. There are days where my downlink speeds are over 100Mbps.
 
What's the price? I'm almost ready to discontinue the satellite back up. There is a Starlink out here on the Island for one station, the one behind the Old K2.

@Kelly A i cant wait till starlink is available here. its available almost everywhere in alaska but where i am

when it comes here, i plan on downgrading viasat to the smallest plan (60 gigs, 12 megs down/2 megs up) as a back up with starlink as the main. those two are cheaper than the viasat 30 megs down 3 megs up 300 gig plan im paying for now

It's $500 for the terminal, but also spend the extra $25 for the RJ45 network connection too. That way you'll have both wireless and a hardwired connection. Service is $110 a month.
There's no bandwidth FAP with Starlink either.
