Has Jack FM shifted their music to more rock?

I've noticed more rock in the mix the past few days. Some Metallica in particular that I had not heard before on Jack. Just made me wonder if they added it after KEGL went away. Not sure why they'd do that, but it was enough of a shift for me to notice.

There's another thread on the National Radio board that mentions this. The major market versions of Jack are programmed locally. So I suspect you're correct. The older KEGL stuff is on Jack and the newer KEGL stuff is on KVIL.

At this point only the Jack-FMs in the US owned by Audacy, iHeartMedia and Midwest Communications are not using the nationally distributed playlist. Audacy in Los Angeles, Dallas and Minneapolis. iHeart in Seattle and Baltimore. Midwest in Nashville and Knoxville.

The original argreement between Sparknet and CBS Radio in the mid 2000s carved out the Top 40 markets to be locally customized with the rest required to utilized the then-satellite fed playlist. Some of those such as San Antonio have now gone to the national log as well.

Alt 103.7 is doing the same thing too they played Tool’s “Sober” earlier today

I remembered the god-awful "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" thing Alt did in the early days and one of the deleted songs was "Sober" while the likes of Eminem, Adele, and Ellie Goulding were kept. Oh how the tables have turned!

As for Jack, I do recall them playing Metallica (more specifically "Enter Sandman" and "The Unforgiven") way before when the Eagle was around.

The Jack FM national feed occasionally plays Metallica, usually "Enter Sandman." So I wouldn't consider it unusual for KJKK to play them. I noticed KJKK playing some more rock over the last few years before KEGL flipped. I figured it was to differentiate from sister KLUV.
