I decided to record an FM/HD bandscan in my car last night and I posted it to YouTube. I’m in Grand Prairie, just over 7 miles from the Cedar Hill tower farm. Here it is, if you’d like to check it out:

Of course and thanks! I like to make sure I provide those details, because I know they’re important. I also used a small portable tripod in my car and tried to position the camera as best as I possibly could. I wanted the audio to be as loud as possible, but that causes a bit of vibration with the bass. I have a few ideas for next time. 🙂Great job and thanks for actually putting your general location in a giant metro area in the description.
Always appreciate a good scan. Also, that song 97.9 was playing has been in my head for months but could never put any lyrics together to find it. …but the Fort Worth folks have 88.7 KTCU. KTCU rules. KXT absolutely deserves all its praise for its commitment to the local scene and for giving chances to quite a bit that the rest of the music stations won’t touch. However, KTCU is just a straight up better version of KXT.Wish I could pick 88.5 over here in Ft. Worth.
Do KTCU have the same format as KEOM?....…but the Fort Worth folks have 88.7 KTCU. KTCU rules. No. Completely different. I like KEOM quite a bit. They play a wide variety of oldies that the other stations won’t touch. KTCU plays oldies too, though. Just only on rare occasions. It’s the college station: so everything is fair game as long as it won’t invoke the wrath of the FCC.Do KTCU have the same format as KEOM?....
You just actually made my point. What does 88.7 have to do with 88.5? I'm one of those "Ft. Worth folk", and personally, I don't care for KTCU. They play nothing that interests me, so with that being said, 88.7 may rule in your world, but in my world, it's irrelevant.No. Completely different. I like KEOM quite a bit. So, I do get the point you’re making: KEOM is its own thing, but KTCU is the unsung treasure of the DFW dial.
I believe KEOM belongs to Mesquite I.S.D.I like the KEOM 88.5 tower in Mesquite TX.
It looks like a mini Eiffel Tower type structure![]()
Thanks, I appreciate it! I’m planning to do some more bandscans from time-to-time, including some during my travels back to Illinois around Christmas. By the time I do my next DFW bandscan, I’m hoping that Audacy adds the station logos/album art back to the HD on 100.3, 103.7 and 107.5. I’m also going to try and pick a different time of the hour when not every single station is in a commercial break and do the bandscan from a location where 88.1, 88.5, 94.5 and 107.9 will all lock in HD.Always appreciate a good scan. Yeah, I like KEOM a lot, as well. While they cover roughly the same musical era as KLUV, they go a bit wider and a lot deeper. I recognize that it is a format that won't appeal to everyone because they play a lot of songs that are frankly what the industry would call "stiffs", it is fun for those who remember these songs from when they originally came out. And I can't say that there would be much point for them being just a non-commercial clone of KLUV so they need to have a different spin on the format.No. Completely different. We’re getting into the fun time of the year when KEOM will play horrible covers of Christmas songs. I think a few years ago, I heard them play a Kidz Bop version of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You”. 😆Yeah, I like KEOM a lot, as well. That's exactly why I said I wish I could pick up 88.5 here in Ft. Worth. I've heard songs on that station I would never hear on KLUV that takes me back to my childhood. Like the song I heard on Chris radio. Reminds me a little of the old Sunny 97.1,(R.I.P.).Yeah, I like KEOM a lot, as well.
