WDJO AM Signal

For several weeks the signal for AM 1480, WDJO, has been horrible - less than 10 miles from the transmitters. At night, the signal is unlistenable less than a 5-mile radius. Nothing on their social media or website to address the issue. Maybe they don't care about the AM signal with their two translators and the "baby" - 2 watt signal on 95.3? That's also insane. I thought the purpose of 95.3 was to cover the east side of the metro (Milford?)

Can't remember the frequency WDJO was on before 1480 but I know I could pick up here in NE Ohio and loved listening to it. I can forget about hearing it on 1480 in my area since a station in Canton is on that same frequency. Yeah, I can listen to it online but it just doesn't sound right to these old AM ears.

Believe the WDJO call letters were on 1230, 1160 and 1180.
The present incarnation of WDJO leased 1160. I could get it regularly during the day as far north as Springfield, though on many winter days WYLL from Chicago would drone on all day in the background. The WDJO calls were indeed on 1230 at one time, as well as 106.5 in Greeneville (Dayton move-in).

I don’t think the WDJO calls were ever on 1180, which began life as WFKB, then was WMLX “Music of your Life” until it switched to a satellite delivered smooth R&B format if I recall. Think it was called The Blend, WBND. The owners eventually switched the frequency down to 1160 and were able to get nighttime authorization, albeit not a very listenable signal north of the river. As gr8 pointed out, WDJO at one point leased the 1160 frequency before eventually purchasing 1480 WCIN and moving the calls and format there. I sure hated to see the legendary WCIN call letters go away.

So back to the original post….I too have noticed that the 1480 signal has been very weak recently. Extreme power line noise and fading when driving daytime just 4-5 miles from those towers in Springfield Township. Almost non-existent in certain parts of town. I’m not even hearing them reference the 1480 frequency anymore on air. Only the two FM translators, 99.5 and 107.9, which have lousy coverage and are prone to flutter when listening in the car. For what is essentially the same format, 105.9 seems the better overall signal across a majority of the Cincinnati market.

Has anyone checked out the live call-in request show on Saturday nights with Dan Allen? Imagine, a station where the DJ picks up the phone and takes the audience's requests. How cool is that?

We do it, 8 to 9am and 12noon to 4pm every single day in alaska and theres a darn good chance we both have your song and will play it

I think all our oldies and classic hits stations have bad signals now.

WGRR has a horrible, horrible signal these days, but it used to be great. I can barely pick them up in Bellevue anymore.

WGRR is at 863 ft AGL on the Star tower and is licensed for 11 Kw. That site should be less than 10 miles from Bellevue. I wonder what's up???

Sometimes I get other stations battling each other out on 103.5, and most of the time I get a very static-plagued WGRR. This isn't a problem with the radio, because it's like this on every radio.

It's a problem in much of the area. It's bad in Highland Heights. It's bad in Deer Park. The only places WGRR seems to have a good signal is on the rural fringes far from the city.

Since I moved to Centerville Ohio I miss some of my Cincinnati stations but I bought a Google Nest Audio smart speaker and now I can hear wdjo wgrr pretty much all the Cincinnati stations loud and clear.the wdjo feed sounds pretty darn good in fact.
As far as in the car, wgrr does well south of Dayton, but wdjo not so much

When I was in Springfield in mid-November for work, WGRR was coming in just fine. At the very least, I didn't notice signal issues. It certainly wasn't having any problem dominating the channel or fighting with Columbus' 103.5.

A couple of years ago...I was regularly pulling 1480-WDJO in at night in the Albany, NY area on my Superadio and even on my Walkman! Perhaps they weren't powering down at night for a few months...because I could pretty much always count on being able to hear them on a regular basis...However...I haven't detected them for a while now...

That's because the AM signal sucks and, after repeatedly contacting them, they refuse to address the issue. Very disappointing. Can barely pick them up over 10 miles from the transmitter site. Again, anyone know anything about the technical issues they have had for many months? They apparently don't care and are relying on the FM translators. Speaking of that, what up with the 2 watt signal on 95.3? Wasn't that supposed to be in Milford and help cover the eastern suburbs?

And also relying on their online feed. more and more people are getting those smart speakers and the sound quality is getting better on them too. I listen to wdjo in Centerville and it sounds better than any of the local stations on my radios.except for my stereo receiver

I can barely pick up the station in Batavia. I don't know how anyone could receive it in NE Ohio. What haven't the owners made it available to the east side of town?

I keep asking. Got nowhere. Nothing from anyone. Super disappointing that not even a reply is given. Due to lack of a signal (95.3?) on the eastside of the City you would think WDJO would address the AM signal technical issues and, if any, final resolution. Death of AM is getting closer. Sad.
