Are the low PPMs in Spanish stations due to the changing demos in SA? It wasn't that long ago that KROM was in the Top 5. KMYO 95.1 continues to be flat. Perhaps, they are doing better in their target demos. No true surprises here, this being the last fluid book before Holiday programming.. KQXT will move into a 9 Share for December with the Holly Jolly. As predicted, KZEP is the biggest gainer and has jumped from a 2.9 to a 3.7 thanks to KMYO shifting strategies. I am surprised 250W La Preciosa (KQXT-HD 3) still sits in the high 1 shares even with KMYO pointed almost directed at them...
KVBH had a nice book but tough to tell where those numbers came from...
Alpha's NORTENA station= ouch. Many non-rated stations like La Pantera might be eating away at them and KROM.
Anyone want to foretell what January shifts might come for 2023??
KROM has two very much improved regional Mexican competitors, but the total shares for that format are unchanged. Are the low PPMs in Spanish stations due to the changing demos in SA? They can't change market demographics. San Antonio, El Paso, Albuquerque and even Fresno are markets where there is a huge percentage of later generation Hispanics who don't speak Spanish.IMO, Alpha Media and Univision need new local leadership with fresh minds.

Why is everyone so down on Alpha Media? They are a huge local direct biller in the martlet and have significant local presence. They staff a talk station 3 shifts a day, have a live local news department and staff a live sports Talk station. They’re big in community service, (Jimenez thanksgiving radiothon, Wrapping with Jack, Operation interdependence). Yes, they are a Corporate owned entity but they do many of the things everyone says radio doesn’t do anymore and should. I just don’t get all the hate. Are the low PPMs in Spanish stations due to the changing demos in SA? It wasn't that long ago that KROM was in the Top 5. KMYO 95.1 continues to be flat. KQXT and KONO-FM live in the 25-54 Agency World. The KONO-FM 9.5 to 8 dip(6+) was not a book it was a Monthly(November). KQXT generally dominates the Holiday monthly. In the money demo the CMG Super Brands dominate Fall, Spring, Summer and Winter books. KVBH is not in the top 5 in either demo. In the past 6 months according to Nielsen KZEP has made more "'25-54' inroads than KVBH. Additionally, KZEP's PD recently quit.KONO had a nice dip (9.5 - 8.0) in a book and i wondered where that chunk of audience went... ALL indications are that Q1019 switched to Christmas the weekend of November 11th-13th and some of KONO's audience headed out the door... but what IF VIBE 107.5 actually is making a play for those listeners with older R&B titles in the mix? I've heard late 90's Mariah, but they are swimming in the '00-'04 Ashanti, Beyonce area which might be better for them...
While I agree fresh, local leadership is always good, these grid stations are programmed non-locally and management is directing sales efforts more than programming...

A "month" in the PPM is a book. In the PPM markets, there are 13 non-overlapping books a year, each completely separate and complete.KQXT and KONO-FM live in the 25-54 Agency World. The KONO-FM 9.5 to 8 dip(6+) was not a book it was a Monthly(November).
The Holiday book actually includes about 2 weeks after Christmas day, so the strongest periods are the last two weeks of the December book (roughly from Thanksgiving to December 8) and the first two weeks of Holiday.KQXT generally dominates the Holiday monthly.
There are no "season" books in PPM markets, and never have been. Of course, agencies tend to average 3, 4, even 6 or 7 of the last books... which is easy in their software. In the money demo the CMG Super Brands dominate Fall, Spring, Summer and Winter books.
We are just talking what's inside the Nielsen 6+, not to trash the group and their efforts. Just about all stations have a giveback component built-in, some arguably much better than others... All kinds of radiothons going on in Nov/Dec. They are obviously selling these local programs/efforts and not the book (besides JACK) and billing local-direct. Makes sense. From a programming standpoint, it's hard to tell where they are going with Tejano 95.7/103.3- it has grown mold on it and We 94.5 seems to meander. Why is everyone so down on Alpha Media? Thanks for clarification David. I unfortunately live in the Agency 3 month average world. Old habits are hard to break. I'll use the new ppm measurement periods in the future for forum discussion. I enjoy your observations on today's radio.A "month" in the PPM is a book. In the PPM markets, there are 13 non-overlapping books a year, each completely separate and complete.
And, while many buys are, indeed, based on Adults 25-54, many are for subsets like "Men 25-44" or "Spanish Dominant Hispanic Women 18-44" or "35-49 women" or whatever. Some are even based on "upper income college graduate males 35+" and things like that.
The Holiday book actually includes about 2 weeks after Christmas day, so the strongest periods are the last two weeks of the December book (roughly from Thanksgiving to December 8) and the first two weeks of Holiday.

In continuous measurement diary markets, there are now 12 books a year, and each one is named for the final month of a 12-week period. So the "April" book is actually February, March and April combined. Of course, the month names are not really the precise months, either. The "December" diary market book ends in the first week of December, and included weeks from November, October and even September.
Glad to have clarified. I didn't mean to sound too didactic, so I apologize if you took my clarification as a criticism. Thanks for clarification David.
