New station in Jackson features Christmas music (sort of)

There's a new station in Jackson featuring Christmas music. Well, sort of.

Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland is a drive-through Christmas light display at The Ballpark, home of The Jackson Generals baseball team, just off Interstate 40. The display is in operation from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. November 13th, 2020 to January 3rd, 2021. 94.9 is part of the display, and plays music that the lights are synchronized to. The transmitter's range is quite a bit further than the display area. It appears the transmitter stays on 24/7, with music heard only on at night when the display is in operation. In addition to the display in Jackson, Shacrack's has six other displays in the United States.

There's also something similar at the Discovery Park in Union City with a smaller display that broadcasts on 88.1 and goes out about 5 miles away.

We have had Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland in Sevierville TN at Smokies Stadium (where the AA Tennessee Smokies play) ever since I've been here. It indeed does have a radio feed to cars, and in our case, sponsorship by one of the Knoxville radio clusters.

Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland is back in Jackson until January 2nd, 2022. They're using 101.9 FM this year. The range is much less this year compared to last year's on 94.9 FM, but covers the event site fine. It's near the Interstate 40 exit 85/87 area in Jackson.

I drove through Union City going to and from my wife's sister's house in IL for Thanksgiving, and the Discovery Park had their Christmas light show up and it looked larger this year. I wanted to check to see if they had their transmitter on but I couldn't remember the frequency, even if it was on.

At the Jackson show, they leave the transmitter on 24/7 for whatever reason. The music is on for a few hours nightly, when the show is open.

Apparently Shadrack's other show in TN has moved to Johnson City this year, and there are several in NC that are close to them as well. That seems to me to be too close to the Sevierville show, but there is probably more tourist business there during the holidays. The Discovery Park in Union City's show started Friday Nov. 11 and will run until Dec. 30. I couldn't find anything if they will have a station on this year, but I'd guess they will.

Shadrack's in Johnson City. That's interesting because the NASCAR track in Bristol has "The Pinnacle Speedway in Lights".

In Sevierville, Shadrack's has 2 venues this year, the normal one at Smokies Stadium and a new one at Soaky Mountain Waterpark. This will be the last year at the stadium as the future of it is unsure, with the Tennessee Smokies set to leave for a new downtown Knoxville stadium in a couple of seasons.

The show in Jackson had been at the stadium for the Jackson Generals AA baseball team, but they have folded and that may have been a factor in Shadrack's leaving as well.

I saw the same thing, where Shadrack's wasn't going to be in town this year. It was well received the last several years, so I don't know.

A new baseball team is coming to town, and will soon call that stadium home.

I drove through Union City Easter weekend on the way to my wife's sister's house In Illinois and noticed the Discovery Park still has their transmitter on At 88.1 But it's only transmitting dead air. I guess it will stay this until around Thanksgiving when they do their Christmas lights For the next season. But I guess it's legal if it's on a part 15 transmitter.

One would think that they would at least use it for local information, similar to what you can get with those low-power AM stations as you drive up and down Natchez Trace Parkway. (Just have to look for the signs.)
