Another Departure from WMMR

Sara Parker, MD at WMMR and web PD for WMMR/WMGK, is resigning from her post. She was also Jaxon's producer, who was recently let go from the station due to budget cuts.

Will be interesting to see if the MD position gets phased out over there - and if this is a continuation of the prior cuts - or completely unrelated.

I was under the impression that at most stations the PD was the MD, and there wasn't a sepperit MD.
Having separate PD’s and MD’s was prominent at one time but as you said a lot of companies now play from a national playlist or a variation of said playlist. The MD position has been eliminated at many stations.

In which case the only thing that makes one station different from another in the same group in different markets? on-air sound processing, Jingles/VO work used, on-air personalities?

WMMR still has a local morning show, but maybe just because they are under a contract.

Since the station has been doing so awful in the ratings for the last 7 or so years, totally understandable that they would need to fire the talent whose responsible for their dreadful ratings.

That's not what I see. Typically the MD is either one of the DJs (probably mid-days) and also is APD (assistant PD).

In a market the size of Philadelphia, at a chart reporter, with regular local promotions, you'll have an MD.

I expect they'll assign her duties to someone else.

Last I checked, WMMR is #4 in mornings, behind Coop on WOGL, but ahead of DeBella on WMGK.

Preston & Steve just extended their contract to 2030:

See you are not a radio pro. The pros at corporate understand that you read the ratings reports upsidedown.

With few exceptions, people who are gone stay gone, just reality in all businesses. It isn’t about one station “recovering,” it’s about broader economic conditions and the always evolving business landscape.

The one time I was laid off, they offered me my old job back, but it was two years later, and by then I'd found a new job. When it happened, I got paid severance and COBRA health benefits for a while.

WMMR does not have problems ratingswise. An earlier post suggests that the station has been doing awful in the ratings. So, ranking at #5 (P6+) is awful? There may be other issues on the corporate level, but WMMR has been a consistent top performer in the market.

I think that poster was being sarcastic.
