Holiday Winter Storm 2022

KDNS 94.1/KZDY 96.3 in central KS off-air due to weather.
Also, 1400 WDWS Champaign IL reported off air.

I'm sure there's more out there. What an awful storm.

Oh, and prayers up for Buffalo. They are going to need them. Once-in-a-lifetime blizzard with up to 60 inches of snow, 60 mph of wind and huge waves expected. No one will ever forget the hell that is heading straight for the Queen City. Maybe worse than 1977...

KDLO-3 and KDLO-FM in SD also lost their tower.

They did. In November. This will be even worse than November. It's already rivaling Jan-Feb 1977 and it's just starting. 80 mph gust reported on the NYS Skyway and whiteout conditions.
If Wegman's even shut down their stores, this is bad.

Edit - WGRZ reports Mark Poloncarz is urging low-lying areas near the lake to evacuate ASAP.

I hope Santa made his stop to Buffalo and WNY a little earlier than expected ;-)

One of the Meteorologists where I work reported that one town in the Yukon hit a low of -77F day before yesterday. Apparently a record.

I saw a letter to the editor claiming the North Pole is melting. If only.

Hey Chimp, this is what Climate Change looks like. Extreme and erratic temperature swings, historically destructive storms increasing in frequency, sea level rise caused by melting ice shelves. Not too pleasant is it...

Where I live in East Tennessee, we have had rotating 15 minute blackouts (and everyone suddenly has their Facebook Power Grid Management degree), and I would assume radio stations would be exempted or have their generators on standby. I'm also hearing that Nashville is doing 10 minute blackouts every hour.

Here in the Mid Atlantic, we had about a five hour utility outage, but our whole-house generator picked up the load after about 8 seconds.

Same thing here in West Tennessee. I believe it's a TVA thing so it's probably Statewide and possibly parts of other states.

Straight from the horse's mouth at NWS Buffalo. The media was NOT hyping this up.........

"...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM SNOWFALL SET AT BUFFALO NY...

A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 22.3 WAS SET AT BUFFALO NY YESTERDAY.
THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 12.6 SET IN 1976."

Still a blizzard in most of WNY and Niagara Falls is getting hit hard right now. Nasty snow bands are coming back to Buffalo tonight if I read correctly.

The airport is shut down until Monday at the earliest.

As mentioned on the Boston forum, there are some stations off the air in Maine and other areas due to weather. I don't know what the situation is like in WNY or Watertown, but I'm sure a few stations are off or on generators.

Here in Indiana, I froze my butt off while doing the weather announcements over the air. The furnace ran continuously and couldn't keep up. I had the generator ready in case the power went out. But t stayed on.

Merry Christmas everyone!

after dealing with the coldest air in Texas on Thursday Night/Friday Morning and then last night's cold temps, it's safe to say ERCOT survived it's first major test since the February 2021 Grid failure that lead to rolling blackouts to full on power outages. however, they came close to it to the point that ERCOT asked for the permission to exceed air quality limits to be able to make sure the grid doesn't fail.

After underestimating power demand, Texas electric grid operator gets federal permission to exceed air quality limits

I heard there were rotating blackouts in NC. they updated us every now and then about power outages but didn't say how many were because of storm damage.

One newscast showed a man outside after shopping wearing shorts.

My neighbor went outside to dump trash in short sleeves. I didn't ask but maybe his wife needs the heat to be on high.
