Lakers/Rams conflict

Merry Christmas!

Not that anyone really cares (I just happened to see on Twitter).

The Lakers and Rams are playing at the same time. The Lakers are on 710 while the Rams are on 1110.

Does that break any rules of their simulcast?

It might not 100 percent sure though. Ask David E he knows alot about sports stations as I don't have the answer

What and whose "rules" are we talking about here? Even if something about this particular situation may seem odd to you, wouldn't you think the parties involved (league, teams, radio flagships) would have anticipated it and have contingency plans in place? Seems more likely than just winging it and saying, "OK, we aren't allowed to do this, but let's do it and hope nobody notices." The latter just looks like more of the "fantasy radio" fanboy stuff that pops up here occasionally.

So 710 is owned by Good Karma. 1110 is still owned by Disney. Karma has a deal with Disney/ESPN. What's the problem?

The only "simulcast rule" you might be talking about would be for ratings, and I doubt that matters to anyone.

What makes this unique is the two stations are not co-owned. But they were co-owned by Disney before Good Karma bought 710. There had been a lot of comments that 1110 has the better signal, and GC would have done better to buy that station rather than 710. Now we see that there is a relationship, and it might lead to a deal down the road.

I take it that 710 > 1110? After all, LeBron Lakers > Rams.

for what it’s worth KFI committed an obvious FCC violation by giving a political candidate airtime and refusing to give airtime to another. I’m starting to wonder if radio groups care about rules anymore

Maybe in terms of fan base, but the Lakers are 13-20 this season, looking like another losing season.

As we said, some feel 1110 has a stronger signal, but 710 was the one Good Karma bought.

Plus The Rams are simulcast on KCBS-FM.
agreed on the fan base. Even with rams winning the super bowl everyone is still a raiders fan

Not everyone. I first did work in LA in 1972, yet I had to look up both the Rams and Raiders to see what city(ies) they were from.

The Raiders were no concern of yours In 1972, as they were still in Oakland. They were only in LA for a few years in the '80s before moving back to Oakland and, in 2020, to Las Vegas.

My point was, despite working on and off in LA and SoCal for 50 years and as a resident for nearly 30, I still can't identify those teams. My objection was to the "everyone" statement. Likely the majority of my friends in LA would react the same.... but just ask who Chivas is!

I am pretty sure it is a whisky. No trick questions please!

The "soccer" club from Guadalajara. Didn't they sponsor an MLS team for a few seasons?
