Fingers crossed, prayers up, Buffalo!

What a horrible storm you guys are experiencing out there. Let us know how you're doing. 75 mph gusts have been reported, storm surge, whiteout conditions, and now an evacuation for low-lying areas of the city. This storm is about to be worse than 1977. STAY SAFE EVERYONE!
My guess is nearly every Buffalo radio and TV station will be on generators or off before this is over. Let alone Canadian FMs across the falls.

- storm surge just reported in Naval Park
https://twitter.com/NickPBassill - he's pointing out a nearly 80 mph gust right now at the NYSDOT Skyway site

Finally made it home from WXXI storm coverage here in Rochester. I've been listening to WBEN while driving, and they are at their best, just a non-stop stream of listener calls and news updates. They're planning to be live all night long and into tomorrow.

The media often times does whatever it can for ratings..... Propaganda, in all its' forms
is despicable. People in W.N.Y. are experienced and prepared for all kinds of weather which is more
than I can say for most other areas and places............

The areas of the city that are being swamped by the seiche are either beachfront areas south of the city that have been swamped many times before or parkland near the marina. They've told some waterfront residents to evacuate because the storm has piled up water 4 feet above flood stage in the eastern end of the basin. This has happened before and will happen again.

Reed Timmer was struggling earlier today. His stream cut in and out many times and the wind was ferocious. There's damage at the waterfront. Also, the Werhle Golf Dome is gone (at Williamsville NY). Even the weather geeks on American WX and AccuWeather can't believe what they are experiencing.

This is not 'just a winter storm.' Sorry. At least unlike 1977, there was plenty of warning from the National Weather Service, government officials, the media, and even Gov. Hochul.

The r/Buffalo sub on Reddit is full of videos and posts...the Cheektowaga fire department is on there saying not one fire truck is able to make it out. They are snowed in with drifts.

You are way exaggerating...it is very manageable...we have our roofs intact, our homes are still on their foundations, and we are not sliding into the Pacific Ocean...seek to console elsewhere, where it is really needed.
It is pretty horrendous out there. I had to trek about 140 feet to my neighbors and back in this and it was the worst weather I have ever witnessed. Had to get through two 5-foot drifts and then trudge through over 2 feet of snow (and climbing) all while being power-blasted with wind and snow. I could barely breathe in it.

I will gladly accept some of his consolation.

There's no reason to be out there unless you're a first responder or essential personnel. It's a major storm that's unusual in its duration of the high winds and gusts. The wind direction has targeted the city and NE suburbs with enduring lake effect snow, but there's plenty of generalized snowfall, and the winds are creating deep and dense drifts. There are scattered power outages throughout the area. Most are small and localized, but the numbers add up and it's unlikely a truck is going to be able to repair them while the storm rages. Warming shelters have been set up and a call to 911 will get you a ride if necessary. With luck, the storm will be over Christmas day, but the cleanup is going to run into most of next week.

This isn't as bad as '77, but it's the biggest storm since then. It may not be as destructive as the October Surprise simply because the snow isn't heavy and wet and the leaves aren't on the trees. There will be more lake shore damage with this storm thanks to the seiche that raised lake levels 8-10 feet and the wave action whipped up by the winds. Because the lake isn't frozen, there's less snow to be dumped in the city, but the shoreline damage is going to be greater than '77.

If there's any consolation, it is the Christmas weekend and most people can ride it out at home. Celebrations can be postponed if necessary, or Sunday might ease enough to allow some travel. All the major highways are closed so there shouldn't be any travelers trying to pass through the area. We had plenty of warning so people should be well stocked with supplies. There certainly isn't any problem keep keeping food frozen.

So the storm is "Fake News"? Airlines are cancelling flights just for the fun of it. The majority of the country is being impacted by this. It's 31 degrees in Tampa FL. People like you that ignore the warnings are not "prepared" for the weather. They try to drive and get stranded putting lives in jeopardy.

Anyone that attempts to drive in Blizzard conditions should be "Boiled with his own pudding and buried with a stake of holly through his heart" -- E. Scrooge...

I NEVER used the term "fake news." YOU Did! As YOU stated, "The majority of the country is being impacted by this."
As usual, the media focuses on Buffalo and W.N.Y. as though the rest of the country is unaffected. It is NOT, as you stated.
You must have BAD EXTRA SENSORY PERCEPTION because unlike the morons from california who move here and drive
their motorcycles on the ice and snow or drive as though the roads aren't icy or snow covered, I AM PREPARED!!!!!!!!!!!

They are focused on Buffalo rightly so. The Blizzard conditions have created a life threatening situation. CNN just aired a segment with an Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. The current conditions are extremely bad there.

Your original post implied that this Storm was media hype and propaganda. It's obviously not...

Hold on a sec. Right now it’s Monday 11::35am and WBEN is by playing the conservative blame game. Not the WBEN I remember.

Did you notice when Scott Fybush posted? That was Friday night. WBEN was in full storm coverage mode until at least Sunday. They did the best job of anybody in Buffalo radio, and maybe the best job of anybody in Buffalo media.

Yes and for lots of people it wasn't over by Monday but there they were blaming the government for not doing something to rescue people. I'm sure WBEN listeners didn't hear that back during the "Blizzard of '77".

Audacy owns other stations besides WBEN what were they doing?

The storm was over by Monday. The cleanup was not, and still isn't, and WBEN was deeply into the Monday Morning Quarterbacking phase of throwing gasoline onto the fire.
