They preempted that for this?

Head-scratching alternate NFL game decision in central Illinois today. If those count as "preemptions."

Why did CBS (most likely) when either Colts-Giants ended or got too lopsided, switch WCIA-3.1 Champaign (which is repeated in Springfield on WCIX-49.2) from that game to Dolphins-Patriots? Instead of the much closer (by both score and distance) Chiefs-Broncos game that's currently airing in St. Louis (KMOV-4), Quincy (KHQA-7) and the Quad Cities (WHBF-4). WMBD-31 Peoria got the Colts today too at last check but don't know whether they got switched to 'Fins-Pats, or if they got the much closer (from KC anyway) DEN-KC game instead.

Lousy CBS (or WCIA) alternate game decision this afternoon.

as I posted to your EXACT same gripe on avs it is NOT the decision of the affiliate, rather the network

Its a network decision not the local affiliate. There are games in each time slot that can be flexed out if it gets out of hand. They are chosen in advance because not every game can be switched out. According to twitter most of the folks who had Ind/NYG switched out to Miami/NE except Indiana and NYC

Oh and its no a pre-emption so dont know why you posted it in here

tonight in North Dakota ABC programming is pushed back to 12:06am CST/11:06 MST on all 4 ABC's (WDAY, WDAZ, KBMY, KCMY) due to the North Dakota/North Dakota State basketball game
(they are showing an early news at 9 and then a rerun of entertainment tonight to fill until the 10:00 news)

Kinda shocked they just didnt put it on their -3 Xtra channel since that is usually what they do.

No local news last night on WCCB (CW) Charlotte NC. There was a special on the true meaning of Christmas that was repeated several times.
This doesn't surprise me. During the Christmas season, Cy Bahakel delivers a short message on the centrality of Jesus to the Christmas message on WOLO here in Columbia, and, I assume, on the other Bahakel stations as well. I don't know if that special aired on WOLO as well.

Network programming in Memphis was pre-empted tonight because of coverage of the protests over the death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of police. I could only get WREG CBS 3 and WATN ABC 24, but I figure this happened on WMC NBC 5 and WHBQ Fox 13 as well.

WDAF-TV, Ch. 4 in Kansas City, MO, is preempting Fox News Sunday to show a 4 hour (7-11AM) "KC Kickoff" special edition of Fox 4 News Sunday. Fox News Sunday is instead being shown, in it's normal time (9-10AM), in letterbox format, on their Antenna TV subchannel (Ch. 4.2) preempting I Dream of Jeannie.

North Texas TV station have preempted some programming like national morning news shows this week and WFAA preempted Entertainment tonight and KXAS preempted Access Hollywood and KTVT moved Wheel of Fortune to KTXA 21 due to the on going prolonged winter weather event, i'm sure many TV stations in markets impacted by said winter weather event is doing the same.

Iowa does the same thing when we have bad weather depending on the station.

The NHL All-Star Game is taking place in South Florida & WPLG in Miami is preempting the replay of the NFL Pro Bowl Skills Challenge & the Alex Ovechkin special GR8TNESS. They're bumping the Pro Bowl Skills competition to overnight, but not giving the same treatment to the NHL special leading into the All-Star game that's taking place in their own market!!!

KCWi 23 the CW which airs a paid program at 12:30pm (which will air at 2:30 pm) , Worlds Funniest Weather from 1-2pm (which will air from 3-4pm instead) and a Movie from 2-4pm which will be pre-empted is airing basketball Gambling State @ Alabama State which is airing on the Grio as it has the Grio logo in the upper right hand corner on the screen.

Was it being pre-empted for live coverage of a local news event?

I vividly remember when David Letterman started on CBS, he only got clearance on about 65% of CBS affiliates because of the 35% either pre-empting or outright not airing the previous 11:35 "Crime Time After Prime Time" block and he didn't get full clearance across all CBS affiliates until the end of 1994, which makes his initial ratings victories over Leno all the more impressive since Dave was only on in 65% of the country while Leno got 100% clearance across all NBC affiliates.

Of course, by the time Dave got 100% clearance, Jay was regaining momentum and never looked back.

The most notable CBS affiliate that initially preempted the Late Show with David Letterman was KMEG-TV, Ch. 14 in Sioux City, IA. He would make jokes about Sioux City, IA, being the home office of the Late Show Top 10 because of that. Also KMEG-TV didn't have local news & instead aired hour long syndicated TV shows from 10-11PM at the time.

At the TV station I was working for at the time (CBS affiliate in a one-station market) we were very glad to have Letterman, and we were carrying the lackluster Crime Time After Prime Time. I remember the viewing party for the first night, which a local radio station actually sponsored.

I've mentioned it before but WREG CBS 3 in Memphis had never carried CBS's late night programming since at least the late 70's and carried reruns of MASH and later Cheers and late movies until Letterman moved to CBS. They pushed him back to 11 PM for the first few months and srill carried Cheers at 10:30, but eventually moved Cheers and MASH to both be after Letterman.
