Spraking of stations turning 40...

While going through some old news articles I have here at home researching the WMJJ tower collapse, I came across some info about the beginning of Birmingham's WGIB 91.9. WGIB began broadcasting forty years ago today on 1/2/83.

If there was ever a "Jack FM" for Christian radio stations, this well may be it. You never know what you'll get next when you listen to that station.

That pretty much describes little ol' me. If you thought they were Jack, stay tuned. I'm going amaze you with my own presentation, once we start streaming. And yes...I do listen to their station some, when I'm in the area. I love to listen to Mr. Johnny Brock and His Midday Gospel Hour. The show is wonderful indeed. It continues to bless me, every time I'm tuned in.

Many christian stations offer different programming throughout the day...from preaching, christian talk to christian music. It's not that unusual...

Maybe I'm crazy and misremembering things, but did WGIB have a habit of transmitting in both stereo and mono depending on the programming? I seem to recall that whenever they had talk programming they'd kill the stereo pilot, but turn it on for music.

The only other station I've ever heard of that did this was WUAL, although I don't think they do this anymore since upgrading to IBOC.
